❔

The long strange trip the Grateful Dead began with Warner Bros in the late 60s culminated in this concise, pretty darn solid attempt at an early Best Of, appropriately called Skeletons In The Closet! The Dead would never be best known for their studio recordings, but this really is a good reminder that the band wrote and recorded a lot of wonderful songs in their heyday that feel uniquely, distinctively Dead even in the 3 to 6 minute studio versions. It's a worthy reminder of that for eternal fans, and an even better gateway to Dead fandom for newcomers. Includes "Truckin'", "Sugar Magnolia", "St. Stephen", "Uncle John's Band", "Casey Jones", "Mexicali Blues", "Turn On Your Love Light", "One More Saturday Night", "Friend Of The Devil" and more.  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Burbank label pressing. Cover has some wear with a split spine.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Leonard Cohen

Death Of A Ladies' Man
Warner, 1977. Near Mint- Gatefold
One of just a couple of albums by Leonard Cohen from the 80s – certainly an underappreciated one, in regard to his late 60s and early 70s canon – and that's a shame, because this is pretty brilliant stuff! Stylistically, there's sparse folk pop, some steel guitar twang and then ... LP, Vinyl record album

Swallow

Out Of The Nest
Warner, 1972. Sealed
An obscure early 70s rock ensemble – one who work here with nice tenor, flute, and arrangements from David Woodford – on titles that include "Something Special Started Happening", "Brown Eyed Baby Boy", "Common Man", "Shuffle", "Aches & ... LP, Vinyl record album

Black Sabbath

Sabotage
Warner, 1975. Fair
Black Sabbath going strong – very much in their own space by this point in their career, setting a sound that countless others would try to follow – but never match for fierceness like this! The fuzz is definitely turned up to 11, the rhythms move at a breakneck speed, and Ozzy's ... LP, Vinyl record album

B-52s

B-52s
Warner, 1979. Very Good
A hell of a debut from The B-52s – and a record that's become surprisingly timeless over the years, despite a retro-styled approach by the group! These guys aren't the silly group of later years here – and instead, they've got this moody darkness that's wonderful – a re-envisioned ... LP, Vinyl record album

B-52s

Wild Planet
Warner, 1980. Very Good
They may look goofy on the cover, but the young B-52s are incredible here – working with this spare sense of power that almost makes us think that we didn't need most of what happened in rock and roll during the 70s – given the way these guys can distill a mood or moment down to just a ... Warner, 1973. Very Good+ Gatefold
Maybe one of the most classic albums from Seatrain – and a set that definitely shows their huge progression from roots in The Blues Project, to their transformation into more of a roots rock band on the Marin County scene! In a way, the record's almost a west coast take on territory The Band ... LP, Vinyl record album

Black Sabbath

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Warner, 1973. Very Good+ Gatefold
The grandest scale and most elaborately furnished Black Sabbath album to this point – but they still bring the heavy! Four Seasons

Helicon
Warner, 1977. Very Good+
A 1977 album for Warner Brothers – one that has the group hitting a smoother, tighter sort of sound – nicely compressed 70s pop, of the sort that both Frankie and the Seasons had been hitting in some of their individual chart forays during the decade. Bob Gaudio's very firmly in charge ... LP, Vinyl record album

Warner, 1977. Very Good
Snide, surly and cathartic genius from the Sex Pistols – a record with a legacy as eternal as any rock album, punk or otherwise – all the more stunning, given it's the band's lone studio album! One classic after another, including "Holidays In The Sun", "Bodies", ... LP, Vinyl record album

Mercury, 1983. Near Mint-
Ahhh . . . For the early charms of Trio – a beatbox, a fuzzy guitar, and a simple, playful approach to the the tunes! Tracks all follow in the spirit of their "Da Da Da" hit – short, catchy, and very fun – and titles include "Bye Bye", "Hearts Are ... LP, Vinyl record album
