Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

New Jazz/Prestige, Early 50s. Good+
Sublime early Getz all the way through – material that shows why even right out of the gate, Stan's sound on the tenor was one to be reckoned with! Side one features a quartet with Al Haig on piano, Tommy Potter on bass, and Roy Haynes on drums – all giving Stan plenty of room to ... LP, Vinyl record album

Prestige, 1954. Near Mint-
Key recordings from Sonny's breakout year of 1954 – tracks from 2 different sessions, brought together into one album that packs a hell of a punch! Prestige, 1975. Very Good+
A pretty great little record from Jack DeJohnette – really offbeat on the rhythm tip, and early proof that he was one of the more forward-thinking drummers of the 70s! Jack plays a bit of keyboards on the record, in addition to drums – and the group features Alex Foster on alto and ... LP, Vinyl record album
Captain Marvel
Columbia, 1972. Near Mint-
A wicked album that's one of Stan Getz's best from the 70s! The record features Stan reunited with Chick Corea, whose warm lyricism was the lynchpin in Getz's landmark Sweet Rain – the stunning session from 1968 that is perhaps our favorite-ever Getz album. Corea plays electric piano here, ... LP, Vinyl record album
Steamer
Verve, 1956. Near Mint-
The title may be a bit strangely put – as "Steamer" isn't a word that we'd necessarily think to use with the gently flowing tenor tone of Stan Getz – but that doesn't stop the album from being a great one, and perhaps in Getz-like terms, it might well have a bit more steam ... South Side Soul
Prestige, 1960. Very Good-
A great trip to the south side of Chicago at the end of the 50s – courtesy of pianist John Wright, one of the city's most deeply soulful players on the keys at the time! A classic early set from Jack McDuff – and a record that's very much in his own hands, despite the presence of Gene Ammons as a co-leader! Blackhawk, 1986. Near Mint-
A standout session from Stan Getz – one of the real gems of his later years, and a masterpiece of well-blown and confident tones!
