Mambo!

LP (Item 6281) Mercury, 1956 — Condition: Very Good+
Just Sold Out!

LP, Vinyl record album

❔
Classic Cugat mambos, with a nice hard sound that would sound right in the Catskills or the Palladium! The whole darn thing's got that nice "umph" feel that you'll find in his best 50s recordings – and tracks include "Park Avenue Mambo", "Sun! Sun!", "Mambo Mania", "Babalu", "Oooh Listen Baby", and "Mambolette".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Original mono pressing with deep groove. Cover has a small top seam split, but looks great!)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

David Le Winter

Evening At The Pump Room
Mercury, 1958. Very Good
Although the big New York hotels had their share of great Latin pianists, Chicago had it's own great one during the 50s – in the person of the little-known David Le Winter, a supremely talented pianist who seems to have only cut this one album for Mercury during the 50s. The record itself is ... LP, Vinyl record album
Alegre, 1968. Very Good+
An amazing follow up to Ricardo Ray's first album of Jala Jala and Boogaloo tracks – a real killer Latin soul set that's even better than the first! The record's got a full-on style that kicks in from the very first note – a blend of uptight Latin tracks and some very groovy 60s-styled ... LP, Vinyl record album

Astor Piazzolla

Tango – Zero Hour
American Clave, 1986. Near Mint-
A fantastic late life album by the Argentine musical genius Astor Piazzolla – and a set that shows just how far he'd transformed the format of the tango along his musical path of the previous decades! The sound here is completely unique – with some elements of modern string quartet ... LP, Vinyl record album

Willie Rodriguez

Bunch Of Bongos
Grand Award, 1960. Very Good
A driving session of big band Latin, with some really nice moments, and some particularly strong percussion on the best tracks. According to the notes, Ray Barretto and Johnny Pacheco are on the album – but we don't see enough evidence to totally believe that. Titles include "Mambo ... LP, Vinyl record album

Clockwork Orange

Mariachi Brass with Chet Baker

Double Shot
World Pacific, Late 60s. Near Mint-
A very strange chapter in Chet Baker's career – one that has him blowing the lead trumpet in World Pacific's Mariachi Brass – a group that was clearly designed as a Herb Alpert ripoff! The album's actually pretty nice, thanks to arrangements by George Tipton that sway and swing – ... LP, Vinyl record album
