A definite bit of Big Fun from Shalamar – totally tight and very much at the top of their game – making the transition from disco modes to leaner 80s groove, thanks to lots of great production and songwriting help from Leon Sylvers! Sylvers was really emerging as one of the key forces on Solar Records at the time – and he does a great job here of shaping the trio's strong vocals – which includes work by Howard Hewett and Jody Watley – both of whom are right at home on the album's groovers. Titles include their classic "The Second Time Around", plus "Girl", "The Right Time For Us", "Right In The Socket", and "Take Me to The River".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Solar/Right Stuff, 1977. Used
The classic first album by Shalamar – that legendary trio that featured a young Jody Watley – all working under the leadership of Soul Train maestro Don Cornelius! Given Don's experience with the growth of 70s soul on his TV show, he's a perfect fit to give the younger singers guidance ... CD

Sequel (UK), 2000. Used
An amazing album of spacey dancefloor tunes – and the first-ever proper reissue of work by the legendary UK outfit Atmosfear! Atmosfear had a revolutionary electronic disco sound that's probably best compared to the Patrick Adams or Cloud One work for the P&P label in the US – and ... CD
Solar, 1980. Used
A crowning achievement from Lakeside – one of the key albums to link Ohio funk roots with a smoother LA groove – all served up in a way that had limitless influence for years to come! Bass is definitely at the head of these arrangements, but there's plenty of great guitar too – ... CD
Scepter/Sequel (UK), 1965. Used
Five albums into Dionne Warwick's classic run for Scepter Records, and she's still sounding great – head and shoulders above most other female pop singers of her generation, with a style that really sets a whole new standard for the time! Burt Bacharach handled most of the arrangements here ... CD

Linda Jones

Your Precious Love
Sequel (UK), Early 70s/1991. Used
Fantastic compilation of 70's east coast soul sides by one of the greatest (and least recognized) female vocalists of the era. Originally recorded for the great All Platinum/Stang set of labels, now repackaged nicely, and with better notes than any U.S. reissue of Linda Jones' stuff. 18 great ... CD

Commodores

Commodores
Motown, 1977. Used
A classic self-titled set from The Commodores – not their debut album, but a record that really broke them out of the box and exposed the group to a huge new audience! The album hits perfectly on both sides of the group's strengths – the tight ensemble funk on which they were raised, ... CD

Ike Turner & The Kings Of Rhythm

Black Man's Soul
Funky Delicacies, 1969. Used
Great stuff – and the only truly funky album that Ike Turner ever recorded! This set's a batch of obscure funky instrumentals – and sounds like a strong compilation of rare 45s, filled with hard funky drums, nice breaks, and plenty of super-tight grooves. Nearly every cut's a winner ... CD

Gwen Guthrie

Ticket To Ride
Island/4th & Broadway, 1982/1983/1987. Used
A late 80s compilation of work mostly pulled from Gwen's dynamite first two albums for Island. You know the tracks from her self-titled album, Portrait and the Padlock Ep, and a number of the versions here are the Larry Levan remixes. The cuts are all solid 80s groove, but with the great fusion ... CD
