Colonel Abrams

LP (Item 62603) MCA, 1985 — Condition: Very Good+

Mid 80s soul from Detroit's Colonel Abrams –one of the first artists to take the then burgeoning house sound into the mainstream – paired up with nicely grooving modern soul vibe! Includes the his "Trapped" and "I'm Not Gonna Let", with those bright and bumping synth melodies and relentless house influenced beats underneath vocals and songwriting that helped get it over with the chart ready contemporary soul scene – plus the solid ballad "Never Change", "Over & Over", "Speculation", "The Truth", "Table For Two" and more.  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Still in the shrink with hype sticker.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Shotgun III
MCA, 1979. Very Good-
Bassy funk from Shotgun – on their third album at this point, and still very much in the tight groove that gave them their start! The format's nothing fancy, but one of the better mainstream takes on funk at the time – a groove that's got the complicated rhythm patterns that lets the ... LP, Vinyl record album

A sweet sweet groover from Klique – with a sound that more than makes us forgive them for their silly costumes on the cover! Best Of Louis Jordan
MCA, Mid 40s/Mid 50s/1975. Near Mint- 2LP
A great collection of Jordan's material from the mid 40s to the mid 50s – starting with his jazzy numbers of the earlier years, and moving into the more blues/rock 'n roll sound of later recordings. His band always sounds great and it also sounds like they're having a good time especially ... LP, Vinyl record album

Imagination look like a trio of sci-fi centurions on the cover of the set – but the sound within is nicely down to earth, and of the sort that always made the group one of the leading lights in early 80s mainstream soul! The general groove here is mostly in a catchy midtempo mode – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dramatics

10 1/2
MCA, 1980. Very Good+
The Dramatics hit an 80s groove mood here – and as on their clubbier sides from the end of the 70s, the vocals are still wonderful – and more than anything, the set's a strong soul-based set that still has the group at the top of their game! Marlena Shaw's first-ever album – and while not as all-out righteous as some of her later work, still a really unique record that quickly put Marlena head and shoulders above the rest of the pack!
