La La

LP (Item 625771) Arista, 1987 — Condition: Very Good+
Catchy 80s soul from La La – an artist with a groove that's right up there with some of the bigger Columbia acts of the time, even if she never hit their heights! The production work here really helps set the scene nicely – as La La gets support from Full Force, Jon Morales, Lenny White, and others – and Kashif clearly had a hand in the set too – not just from the few writing credits we can see, but also in the overall way the grooves are structured. Definitely a set that fits nicely next to his work of the same time – with cuts that include "Deal With It", "All Work No Play", "So Into Love", "Love Me Just A Little", "I Don't Wanna Go", "We'll Keep Shining", and "I Got A Thing For You".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Patrice Rushen

Watch Out!
Arista, 1987. Very Good+
Patrice Rushen in a crisp 80s soul mode! Watch Out finds Patrice really cutting down the keyboards in favor of stronger vocals right out front – breaking all the rules, as the title of second song tells it – and it works really well! Most of the arrangements, synth and drum ... LP, Vinyl record album

Harvey Mason

Funk In A Mason Jar
Arista, 1977. Very Good+
Smooth soulful jazz from Harvey Mason – one of his strong 70s winners for the Arista album, and a record that really brings a new level of class to his sound! Dennis Coffey

Electric Coffey
Sussex, 1972. Very Good+
Mad funk from Dennis Coffey – and the follow-up to his landmark Evolution album! Johnnie Taylor

Disco 9000
Columbia, 1977. Very Good+
Disco 9000 is Johnnie Taylor's 3rd release for Columbia – a great batch of smooth soul tracks with a lot less of the "disco" that you'd expect from the title! Wolfman Jack

Wolfman Jack
Wooden Nickel, 1972. Very Good+ Gatefold
A pretty silly little album, cut by border radio DJ Wolfman Jack, with funky soul and rock backing from southern California! Roberta Flack

Quiet Fire
Atlantic, 1971. Very Good+
Great small combo work by Roberta Flack, recorded early in her career, when she was still one of the hippest things around – and it's among her best records!
