The album's hardly the smooth set you might guess from the title – although the rhythms of drummer Cecil Brooks are always plenty darn fluid! There's a rock-solid, no-nonsense approach to the record – the sort that marks not only Brooks' best as a leader, but also the many great productions he handled from the time – a real back to basics approach to hardbop that makes Muse dates like this really worth seeking out! The players are all well-chosen, and work together cohesively – a lineup that includes Phillip Harper on trumpet, Justin Robinson on alto, Craig Handy on tenor, Bennie Green on piano, and Peter Washington on bass – working his instrument with bold notes that match Cecil's energy on the drums.
