Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

John Scofield

Rough House
Enja, 1978. Used
John Scofield's the leader here – but at times, we almost think the record's the vision of pianist Hal Galper as much as it is the guitarist – as both their efforts leap from the grooves with a really wonderful sense of energy! Maybe part of the album's strength is the rhythm duo ... CD

Freddie Hubbard

Outpost
Enja (Germany), 1981. Used
One of the best recordings from Freddie Hubbard's "back to basics" stretch in the early 80s – a time when Freddie returned to a strongly acoustic jazz mode after a mostly electric 70s! The record still has Freddie stretching out on the longer tracks he got used to during the CTI ... CD

Mark Helias Open Loose

New School
Enja (Germany), 2001. Used
Features Mark Helias on bass, Tom Rainey on drums, and Tony Malaby on tenor saxophone. CD

Cecil Taylor & Italian Instabile Orchestra

Owner Of The River Bank
Enja/Justin Time, 2003. Used
One of the most complex Cecil Taylor records we've heard in years – and that's saying a lot, given the usual complexity of his music! Taylor plays piano and vocalizes a bit – but he's also tied strongly here to the Italian Instabile Orchestra – a large lineup of varied horn, ... CD

Marty Ehrlich

Traveller's Tale
Enja/Rhino, 1989. Used
Marty Ehrlich on saxophones and clarinets, Stan Strickland on soprano sax and tenor sax, Lindsey Horner on double bass, and Bobby Previte on drums. CD

Tommy Flanagan/Red Mitchell/Elvin Jones

Super Session
Enja (Germany), 1980. Used
A well-titled super session from pianist Tommy Flanagan, bassist Red Mitchell, and drummer Elvin Jones – and one with a bit more sense of surprise than similar all-star trio outings from the 80s! There's a looseness here that's a good antidote to some of the more tightly-produced Japanese ... CD

Odean Pope

Ninety Six
Enja/Ultra Vybe (Japan), 1995. Used
We always love the tenor of Odean Pope, but we seem to love it especially strongly in a setting like this – a lean trio format that really lets Pope step out and do his thing – carving all these strong, bold solos over the lean backing from Tyrone Brown on bass an Mickey Roker on drums! ... CD

Charles Mingus

Mingus In Europe
Enja (Germany), 1964. Used
Great recordings from Mingus' important 1964 tour of Europe – recorded in Germany in April of the year, with a group that features Eric Dolphy, Jaki Byard, Clifford Jordan, and Dannie Richmond. The sophistication of the group shows Mingus at a high point – working beautifully with ... CD

Ray Anderson

It Just So Happens
Enja (Germany), 1987. Used
With Stanton Davis on trumpet, Perry Robinson on clarinet, Bob Stewart on tuba, Mark Dresser on bass, and Ronnie Burrage on drums. CD

Jukka Tolonen

Summer Games
Love (Finland), 1973. Used
A beautiful blend of progressive jazz and folk styles – one of the mellower albums from 70s Finnish guitarist Jukka Tolonen, but a great little set nonetheless! The album's got a warmly organic quality that puts it firmly in the context of some of the Brazilian/fusion experiments from the US ... CD
Moonjune, 2009. Used
Features Alex Maguire on keys, Michel Delville on guitar, and Tony Bianco on drums – with Caravan's Richard Sinclair guesting on bass and vocals on a few tracks! CD
Blue Note, 1967. Used
An extremely well-titled set from the legendary Hank Mobley – one of his key Blue Notes of the 60s, and an album that glides along with an undeniable sense of joy, life, and soul! Mobley's really opening up his groove at this point – moving way beyond standard hard bop and soul jazz ... CD
