Connie & Clyde – Hit Songs Of The 30s

LP (Item 624028) MGM, 1968 — Condition: Near Mint-

Quite an unusual little album from Connie Francis – her attempt to join in on the Bonnie & Clyde album craze of the late 60s – but a set that's got a different feel than most! While others were steeped in country and bluegrass sounds, the approach here is mostly in a 30s pop vocal mode – playful arrangements from Don Costa, occasionally augmented to give them an "old time" feel in the studio – and vocals from Connie that are quite different than her usual pop modes – really changed up nicely to fit the different spirit of the tunes. Titles include "Ace In The Hole", "Gold Diggers Medley", "Connie & Clyde", "Maybe", "Button Up Your Overcoat", and "Am I Blue".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has a cutout hole and factory stickers.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Dancing Voices Go Latin
MGM, 1963. Near Mint- Gatefold
The Dancing Voices go Latin – but in ways that are often much more bossa-inflected than the usual New York groove! Billie Holiday (MGM)
MGM, 1959. Very Good+
One of Billie's last sessions – recorded with beautiful large backings by Ray Ellis, and a heartbreaking tone that may not show Billie as strong technically as on some of her earlier albums, but which is pretty darn compelling nonetheless. A groovy album of soulful tracks by a singer who's not usually that on-the-money. Of course, Cleveland Eaton helped produce the album, so the groove's probably a bit deeper than usual. June Christy

Off Beat
Capitol, Mid 50s. Very Good-
One of June's greatest records, next to her impossible to beat Something Cool! Like that set, this one features dark arrangements by Pete Rugolo, working very hard here to win the "off beat" tag of the title.
