Connie & Clyde – Hit Songs Of The 30s

LP (Item 624028) MGM, 1968 — Condition: Sealed

Quite an unusual little album from Connie Francis – her attempt to join in on the Bonnie & Clyde album craze of the late 60s – but a set that's got a different feel than most! While others were steeped in country and bluegrass sounds, the approach here is mostly in a 30s pop vocal mode – playful arrangements from Don Costa, occasionally augmented to give them an "old time" feel in the studio – and vocals from Connie that are quite different than her usual pop modes – really changed up nicely to fit the different spirit of the tunes. Titles include "Ace In The Hole", "Gold Diggers Medley", "Connie & Clyde", "Maybe", "Button Up Your Overcoat", and "Am I Blue".  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has a hype sticker on front & back.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Carmen McRae

Can't Hide Love
Blue Note, 1976. Near Mint-
Sweet soul from Carmen McRae – a great 70s album for Blue Note, and one that has the classic singer moving into some very groovy material! The feel here is much more soul than jazz – at least the jazz of the torchy style from Carmen's roots – but as you'd guess from McRae, the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Mercury, 1962. Near Mint-
A sexy little set from singer Meg Myles – recorded live before a very adult nightclub crowd – with a great set of tunes to match! The record's got a lot more energy than Meg's previous material from the 50s – and Myles really has a way of swinging things with a sensual sort of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ella Fitzgerald

Whisper Not
Verve, 1966. Very Good-
A groovier batch of tunes than usual for Ella – especially compared to most of her Verve recordings! Ella's getting backed here by Marty Paich and orchestra – in a mid 60s swinging mode that has a nice degree of kick to it, and which shows that Ella's able to groove like some of the ...
