Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Ali Farka Toure & Toumani Diabate

Ali & Toumani
Nonesuch, 2010. Used
The final recording made by Ali Farka Toure and Toumani Diabate – and every bit as great as the pair's previous well-known work! As before, the main charm of the album comes from the instrumental interplay – the dance between the strings of Diabate's kora and Toure's guitar – and ... CD

Barclay/Universal, 1977/1978. Used
Shuffering & Shmiling is one of the tougher Fela albums to find, and it's reissued here with the original cover art, and with the super-extended title cut laid out non-stop end to end. The cut's a very nice groover, and a scathing attack on religion to boot! "No Agreement" is a very ... CD

Fela & Africa 70

Expensive Sh*t/He Miss Road
Barclay (France), 1975. Used
Amazing stuff from one of Fela's most fruitful years on this planet! There's two full albums on here, and between them, they've got 5 long Afro funky cuts in all. "Expensive Sh_t" is one of Fela's best tracks – and it's got a sinister urgent guitar-based groove that never lets up, ... CD

Fela & Africa 70

Open & Close/Afrodisiac
Knitting Factory, 1971/1972/1973. Used Gatefold
2 early 70s Fela classics on one CD! Open & Close hails from 1971 – and it features 3 long songs, all with an incredibly tight groove. Fela, Tony Allen, and the Africa 70 group forge the sound that would dominate their style for the next 2 decades – mixing bass, percussion, ... CD
Soundway (UK), 1970s. Used
Excellent stuff – and a much-needed look at the funky 70s scene in Ghana! Much of the Afro Funk that's been revived over the past few years has come from the Nigerian scene – so it's great to hear this set of funky tunes from Ghana, a rich selection of grooves with a slightly harder ... CD

Rikki Ililonga & Musi O Tunya

Dark Sunrise (2CD set)
Now Again, Mid 70s. Used 2 CDs
An amazing set that documents the early years of the Zamrock scene – the funk and psych informed Afro Rock pioneered by vocalist and African guitar legend Rikki Ililonga and his group Musi-O-Tunya in Zambia from 1973 to 1976 – and compiled beautifully in this great set from Now ... CD

CS Crew

Funky Pack
Cultures Of Soul, 1976. Used
A massive set from Nigeria's CS Crew – and a set that definitely lives up to its title! The bass is super-heavy on these grooves – way more so than on other Afro Funk records of the time, and in ways that easily match, if not beat, the early best by Fatback Band and Kool & The Gang ... CD
Buda (France), Late 60s-Mid 70s. Used
One of the best volumes in this series – especially because it includes a number of tracks by the legendary Mulatu of Ethiopia! The overall feel is much more jazzy than the others, and there's even a few tracks that have a nice funky sound. 14 cuts in all – including "Yekermo ... CD
Numero, Mid 70s. Used
Heavy funk from the Bahamas – a whole bunch of groups that will show you that Nassau had a lot more to offer than The Beginning Of The End! The groove here is totally wonderful – somewhat like American funk of the late 60s and early 70s, but served up with some very unusual rhythmic ... CD

Ananda Shankar & The State Of Bengal

Walking On
Real World, 1999. Used
Back in the 60s, Ananda Shankar was one of the few Indian musicians who was willing to experiment with crossover styles – and the result was a legacy of wild funky tracks that's still having a lot of effect today. As part of that legacy, Ananda's recorded this new album with DJ/producer ... CD
Soul Jazz (UK), 2013. Used
