Volume 2 in Verve's LP collection of Parker's work for the label, with a mix of tracks that includes some straight quartet material, and some recorded with strings from the Midnight Jazz At Carnegie Hall LP. Players include Chick Corea, Atilla Zoller, Richard Davis – ... LP, Vinyl record album
A mighty pairing of Jimmy Smith and Oliver Nelson – one that has the heavy Hammond of Smith set up in some sparkling jazz backdrops from Nelson! The sound here has some bluesy undercurrents, as you might guess from the title – but Oliver's charts keep things hip throughout, and ensure ... LP, Vinyl record album
A great one from Buddy DeFranco – exactly the kind of record that will make you understand why jazz collectors have always prized his Verve Records work so much! Although Buddy's given instrument, the clarinet, was one that was handled by so many others at the time in kind of an outmoded way ... LP, Vinyl record album
An incredible album from Lee Morgan – one of his last records ever, and a set that shows a whole new promise in his music – one that was sadly unfulfilled as a result of his tragic early death. The songs hare are all quite long – stretched out live numbers, but never in a way ... LP, Vinyl record album
The Modern Jazz Quartet with a very noteworthy addition – the great Sonny Rollins, whose work on this record really makes it a cut above the usual MJQ outing for Atlantic! As on the quartet's previous Music Inn album with Jimmy Giuffre, the addition of a reed player really inflects their ... LP, Vinyl record album
