We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Who Can I Turn To
Columbia, 1964. Near Mint-
A 60s classic from Tony Bennett – a record that sported a huge title hit, but which also stands strongly as a really unified album! One of Tony's greatest full LPs, an extremely coherent effort that's tied together with a single theme – very unique for his career at the time! The "Hometown" element is a tribute to New York – and the album's a sophisticated suite of tracks set to jazz backings by Ralph ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tell Me The Truth
Arista, 1975. Sealed
One of the greatest records ever by Jon Hendricks – one of our favorite male jazz singers of all time! The album's an obscure 70s session that features Jon opening up from earlier days – moving into a bit of soul, a bit of funk, yet still keeping things really strong on the jazz tip. ... Do Re Mi
Liberty, 1958. Near Mint-
We love Bobby Troup, and we love records like this that show what a lost link he was in styles of male jazz vocal singing that keep turning up with singers like Harry Connick Jr and some of his contemporaries! Bobby wrote every track on this one, and the set's got lots of his cool little hipster ... LP, Vinyl record album

Look Of Love
A&M, 1967. Very Good+
The genius of 60s pop is hardly summed up better by anyone else than Claudine Longet! This dreamy female singer cut a handful of excellent late 60s albums for A&M – and this gem from 1967 is one of her best! The set's arranged by Nick DeCaro, and produced by Tommy LiPuma – all in ... The album that put Nancy over the top – and one with lots of stellar Lee Hazlewood writing and production, and cuts like "I Move Around", "So Long, Babe", "Flowers On The Wall", and the title cut. Nice liner notes, too – with a conversation in which Nancy ... LP, Vinyl record album
