Ricky Ford in very tight formation – blowing hard with the kind of tone and timing that first caught our ears back in the 70s, still going strong here as part of a great run of sides for Muse Records in the following decade! The album's got Ford's mighty tenor in a group with James Spaulding on alto and flute and Charles Davis on baritone sax – a lineup that makes for some excellent horn interplay that almost hints at Ford's time with Mingus, but with looser small combo styles overall. The rhythm section features Kirk Lightsey on piano, Ray Drummond on bass, and Jimmy Cobb on drums – another tight brace of players who swing as much as the hornmen upfront. Ford wrote almost all the tunes on the set – a further great feature of the record – and titles include "For Mary Lou", "Saxotic Stomp", "Long Shadows", "Ben's Den", and "Art Steps". All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.
