Great Jack Davis cover on this one – and titles that include "Cocktails For Two", "Der Feuher's Face", "Dance Of The Hours", "Laura", "My Old Flame", "Glow Worm", and "William Tell Overture" – all given a mad Spike Jones performance! (Original 1960 mono pressing.)  © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

RCA, 1959. Very Good-
Juan Garcia's at his best here – gazing into a telescope on the cover, looking at the stars and contemplating his next musical direction. For that, the session leaps into a swinging hi-fi mode that brings the hi-ghest fi-delity to the band's nutty approach to arrangements. Esquivel's ... LP, Vinyl record album

One of the maestro's greatest! From the instruments spiraling off to infinity on the cover, to the tracks played in the unique crazy Esquivel "wah wah" style, the album stands as one of the finest examples of (and obstacle courses for) modern high fidelity – a really dynamic set of ... Cop Show Themes
RCA, 1976. Very Good
One of the funkiest albums ever from Henry Mancini – a brilliant reworking of hit 70s cop show themes, put together with a really jazzy groove! The group's a big one – filled with hip players who include Clare Fischer on organ, Artie Kane on electric piano and harpsichord, Don Menza on ... LP, Vinyl record album

Percussion – Playful And Pretty
RCA, 1965. Very Good
Rosengarden & Kraus deliver a bundle of "spruced-up mood music", with a whole bunch of wacky percussion instruments, and a calliope lurking in the background! Titles include "Goofus", "Chloe", "For Want Of A Star", and "Mr Ghost Goes To Town". ... LP, Vinyl record album

Best Of Esquivel
RCA, Early 60s. Near Mint-
Nice nice set of some of Esquivel's best moments from his late-50s/early-60s RCA recordings! The cover's got Juan Garcia on the front, looking very cool, and the record includes a dozen groovy numbers that are the epitome of space age bachelor pad chic: "Poinciana", "Guadalajara" ... Divine Hair Mass In F
Revelation/RCA, 1971. Sealed Gatefold
A very very weird version of "Hair", rewritten as a mass, and performed in a church by the original cast, plus a priest, organist, and everything else that you might throw in if you were going to do it this way. The album's got all the tracks from the score – like "1000 Year ... LP, Vinyl record album

Capitol, Late 50s. Near Mint-
Dreamy work from Les Baxter – featuring his chorus and orchestra over string-heavy arrangements that match the midnight sea setting on the cover. The work's a lot more flowery than his exotic recordings for Capitol – but it's got an insanity that we find quite appealing, especially in ... LP, Vinyl record album

Flahooley
Capitol, Early 50s. Very Good+
One of the more obscure Yma Sumac albums from the 50s – a broadway production with a larger cast – and much more of a musical than Sumac's other records. Yma really stands out in the show, though – singing a few special numbers with music by Moises Vivanco – but the rest is ... LP, Vinyl record album
