Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Columbia, 1958. Used
Way more than just a simple version of work from Porgy & Bess – and instead, a key collaboration between Miles Davis and Gil Evans – done with a sound that really transforms the tunes! True, the work here is all based on George Gershwin's original compositions – but through ... CD
Columbia, 1970. Used 2 CDs
Previously-unreleased live work by one of Miles Davis' most important groups ever – a Bitches Brew-era lineup, playing live at the Fillmore East a month before the record was released to the public – which makes this performance one of the first times the world had ever heard jams like ... CD

Columbia, 1967. Used
One of our favorite Thelonious Monk albums ever – a bare bones, no nonsense session that's filled with great work from tenorist Charlie Rouse! The record's filled with everything that's great about the Monk/Rouse team in these years – an incredible interplay between sax and piano, ... CD
Columbia/Collectables, 1955/1957. Used
Two fantastic albums from one of the greatest arrangers of the 50s! Pete Rugolo first came into prominence with Stan Kenton's group of the late 40s/early 50s – and he had a penchant for creating arrangements that dipped heavily into modernism, but never forgot to swing. He went on to do ... CD

Woody Herman

My Kind Of Broadway
Columbia/Wounded Bird, 1965. Used
Broadway tunes, but some very hip ones – thanks to mightily swinging work from the Woody Herman group of the 60s! Many of the numbers here are familiar ones pulled from big shows of the 1950s and early 60s – but Herman and crew change things up wonderfully by using the tunes as lively ... CD
Columbia/Collectables, 1961/1963. Used
Two very groovy little jazzers from Art Van Damme! Both records were cut during the early 60s – when Art was recording for Columbia with his swinging quintet, in a cool breezy style that surpassed his mellower mood music of earlier years. The album Accordion A La Mode features Art grooving ... CD

Charles Mingus

Alternate Takes
Columbia, 1959. Used
Previously alternate takes from the sessions that produced Mingus Ah Um and Mingus Dynasty. CD

John McLaughlin

Electric Dreams
Columbia, 1978. Used
A definite electric dream for guitarist John McLaughlin – especially given that he's got Carlos Santana working here on the set! The album's very much in the best spirit of McLaughlin's late 70s work – still fusion, and still fairly electric – but also a nice change from his more ... CD

Roscoe Mitchell

Hey Donald
Delmark, 1994. Used
An album dedicated to Donald Myrick – a fellow Chicago saxophonist of Mitchell's, an early member of the AACM, and most famously, a key member of Earth Wind & Fire! The session has a more laidback feel than some of Roscoe's other work, and features a quartet with Jodie Christian on piano ... CD

Reuben Wilson

Set Us Free
Blue Note, 1971. Used
One of the most mindblowing sets ever from organist Reuben Wilson – his last session for Blue Note, and a much more ambitious record than before! The style here is more Cadet Records concept than the usual smaller combo groove of other Wilson sides for Blue Note – as Reuben's organ is ... CD
