Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Milestones
Columbia, 1958. Good+
One of our 50s favorites by Miles Davis – and a record that offers the same twin-sax sound as his classic Kind Of Blue – with both John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley working alongside Miles in the group! Rhythm here is by the Prestige-era trio of Red Garland on piano, Paul Chambers ... LP, Vinyl record album
Super Session
Enja (Germany), 1980. Very Good
A well-titled super session from pianist Tommy Flanagan, bassist Red Mitchell, and drummer Elvin Jones – and one with a bit more sense of surprise than similar all-star trio outings from the 80s! There's a looseness here that's a good antidote to some of the more tightly-produced Japanese ... LP, Vinyl record album
Upper Manhattan Jazz Society
Enja (Germany), 1981. Near Mint-
A great amalgamation of players – and a quintet with powers far beyond their hokey name! The group's working in a polished approach to post-bop – a bit like styles heard on some of the Timeless and Steeplechase sessions of the late 70s, but with a more directive approach that really ... Verve, 1963. Very Good+ Gatefold
Unlike the mellower Breeze from the East LP (another Tjader "eastern" session), this one's got some very lively Latiny stuff – despite the orientalist theme of the LP. There's a monster version of Horace Silver's "Tokyo Blues", plus takes of Lalo Schifrin's "The ... LP, Vinyl record album
Upendo Ni Pamoja
Columbia, 1972. Very Good+
Sublime electric work from Ramsey Lewis! Ramsey's working here with his hip 70s group that included Morris Jennings and Cleveland Eaton, and he's playing some fantastic electric piano – a blend of funky grooves and soulful spiritualism, stripped down into a sound that's one of his leanest ... With Silence
Enja, 1972. Near Mint-
No silence here, as vibist Berger's working with a quartet of free-thinkers that includes some very firey piano by Masahiko Sato! Sato's driving style on the keys really sets the pace for the session, and pushes Berger's vibes into very similar territory – all supported nicely by Allen ... LP, Vinyl record album
Common Touch
Blue Note, 1968. Very Good+
A really great later Blue Note session from Stanley Turrentine – a small combo set that's almost a return to the format of earlier years! The group's a strong one – and features Shirley Scott on organ, Jimmy Ponder on guitar, and Idris Muhammad on drums – playing in a style that's ... LP, Vinyl record album

A great 70s album by Roland Kirk – one that features him working on a lot of short tracks, in a pretty crazy style! A number of the tracks feature Kirk's uniquely quirky reed style in full effect – often processed with added studio techniques, in a very nice way. And along side that ... LP, Vinyl record album
Third Cup
Cadet, 1969. Near Mint-
An amazing album by the great guitarist Eddie Fisher – and completely unlike his later funk records! Blues Walk
Blue Note, 1958. Fair
One of the best of Lou's earlier Blue Note albums – a hard-wailing soul jazz set with some very hip conga in the mix! The group's a really solid one – Lou's famous early quartet – and Herman Foster plays piano, Peck Morrison's on bass, and Dave Bailey's on drums. A young Ray ... LP, Vinyl record album
