Gato – Para Los Amigos

LP (Item 61454) Doctor Jazz, 1981 — Condition: Near Mint-
2LP Gatefold
Originally: 14.99
Some of Gato Barbieri's best work of the 80s – an excellent live set from 1981 that's kind of a return to the drawn-out intensity of his years at Impulse! The group's got a good mixture of percussion, keyboards, and guitar – and the tracks on the set are mostly Latin-tinged numbers that offer a perfect foil for Gato's soulful and exploratory blowing – those haunting long lines we first fell in love with on his records for Impulse and Flying Dutchman! Titles include "Bolivia", "Carnavalito", "Brazil", "Viva Emiliano Zapata", and "Latino America".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Midnight Rider
Prestige, 1973. Near Mint-
A lesser-known funky jazz side from the early 70s Prestige years – one of the only sets we've ever seen from guitarist Maynard Parker, cut in a sweetly laidback style that's not unlike the Kudu Records groove! Parker's on hollow-body electric out front – working with small combo ... LP, Vinyl record album

Mal Waldron

Mal 3 – Sounds
Prestige, 1958. Near Mint-
A really wonderful album from Mal Waldron – quite different than most of his other records from the 50s, and done with a righteous undercurrent that almost points the way towards the Strata East generation of the 70s! The set's one of Mal's few 50s albums as a leader to feature horns ... LP, Vinyl record album

Blue Note, 1958. Near Mint-
The scene may be changing, but nothing can dampen the fire of the great Bud Powell – and, if anything, this fifth installment in Blue Note's "Amazing" series may well have the pianist at his mature best! Eddie Harris

Is It In
Atlantic, 1974. Very Good+
One of Eddie's groovier Varitone albums, and a record that has a very electric sound to it! At times, Eddie's electric sax is so off-beat that you'd think he was playing a synthesizer instead of a sax, but in true Harris form, he always keeps it funky, and even the weird sounds have a great groove ...
