Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

And So On
Reprise, 1971. Very Good+
Tragically flawed genius from the young Jimmy Webb – one of the artist's first few albums under his own name, done after a strong late 60s run of pop work for other singers! The sound here is much more personal and earthy than some of the more famous Webb-penned hits – tracks that ... LP, Vinyl record album
Fourth (4)
Columbia, 1970. Very Good+
An almost all-jazz release by Soft Machine – and a tasty bit of proggish tunes with a spare electric modal groove. Robert Wyatt's still on drums, and the rest of the group features Hugh Hopper on bass, Mike Ratledge on organ and piano, and Elton Dean on saxes. Titles include "Teeth" ... LP, Vinyl record album
Peaceful World
Columbia, 1971. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
Nothing too peaceful here – at least not in a sleepy sort of way – as The Rascals are really hitting on all burners, and starting to mix a bit of funk in with their groove! The record's a great extension of the group's last work on Atlantic – and it takes that already-righteous ... LP, Vinyl record album
Emitt Rhodes
Dunhill, 1970. Very Good+ Gatefold
A really great self-titled set from Emitt Rhodes – a compelling California singer who hardly ever gets his due! The music's a wonderful mix of California late 60s singer/songwriter modes and bits of Beatles-esque production – a blend that makes for a fuller feel than usual for a record ... Liberty, Late 60s. Very Good
Nice groovy instrumentals from one of the best little combos of the 60's. The record includes their big hit "No Matter What Shape (Your Stomach's In)", plus a number of other tracks that have a similar "TV commercial" feel – like "Chiquita Banana", "Pizza ... LP, Vinyl record album
Western Union
Abnak, 1967. Very Good
Genius jangle pop from the 60s – great harmonies, tight guitars, and a sound that's familiar but always fresh – the kind of record that should have rivaled bigger hits by The Monkees or Strawberry Alarm Clock! The Five Americans were an incredibly tight group even for their time – ... LP, Vinyl record album
Rejoice!
Dunhill, Late 60s. Very Good+
A nice bit of hippy-dippy rock/pop from late 60s California – a male and female vocal team, with a sound that's somewhere between The Mamas & The Papas and Ian & Sylvia and Jefferson Airplane. The overall sound of the record is very nice – thanks to production by Steve Barri, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Captain Beyond
Cotillion, 1972. Very Good-
A surprisingly great batch of kick ass rock and roll tunes – southern fried, but done with a cosmic undercurrent that makes for a mighty weird approach! The drums are amazing – fierce right from the get-go, in a way that has made the record a favorite with break collectors for years ... LP, Vinyl record album
Giorno Poetry Systems, 1984. Near Mint-
One of the fantastic albums issued by Giorno Poetry Systems – a wonderful bridge between high and low in the New York scene – as some tracks are spoken straight, and some have music – in a wonderful mix of talents. Tracks include "Imaginatin' Cocktail" by David Johansen ... LP, Vinyl record album
State Of The Art Electronic Devices
Electro Harmonix, 1977. Very Good+
A pretty great album of tripped-out funky jazz and instrumental tunes – played with a range of odd instruments (Golden Throat, universal pedal, ring modulator, phase shifter) and studio effects, going for an approach that shows the wilder sounds of the instruments, while still grooving in a ...
