Sweet Innocent

LP, Vinyl record album

4.50 11

Sweet and innocent, but pretty darn soulful too – an overlooked set from the late 70s glory days of the TK Records scene – recorded down in Miami with lots of all the right touches! The backings are smooth, but a bit funky too – in that great blend TK was doing once the label really took off towards the charts – an approach that really makes the whole record shine, even before Michele's vocals come into the mix! Tim McCabe produced and wrote all the songs – and titles include "Sweet Innocent", "Good Time Lover", "My Baby's Loving", "Closer", "It's You My Baby", "Don't Go", and "Hold Me". (Cover has a cutout notch and some wear.)  © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Power Of Love
Mercury, 1973. Very Good+
An easy album to overlook, but not without some nice moments! Johnny Bristol produced the record, and he gives it a nice sweet 70s soul groove, similar to what he was using in his own work from the time. And typical of Jerry's albums from the early 70s, there's lots of nice original material, ... LP, Vinyl record album

LJ Reynolds' sounding great on his own here – stepping strongly away from his work with The Dramatics, and emerging as one of the best male soul acts of the early 80s! The groove here is a nice extension of his earlier group work – still produced by Don Davis in a mode that's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sit On It!
Mercury, 1977. Very Good
One of our favorite later albums from organist Jimmy Smith – and a set that cooks heavily in a wicked blend of jazz, funk, and soul! The style's a bit like the groove that Johnny Hammond hit during his Gears period – arranged by Eugene McDaniels and Alan Silvestri, with an approach ... LP, Vinyl record album
