The expansive musical mind of August Darnell stretches on in this fourth album from Kid Creole & The Coconuts – a blend of dancefloor rhythms and unusual tunes with a B-Movie approach to pop! Darnell's jazzy influences are still running strong on the set – eclipsed slightly by some more modern production, in a way that gives the album a bit more of a crossover feel than previous albums, but still not in a way that mutes the genius underneath. Titles include "Bongo Eddie's Lament", "The Lifeboat Party", "Underachiever", "If You Wanna Be Happy", "Distractions", "Survivors", "Call Me The Entertainer", and "The Seven Year Itch". Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

Special Edition
Elektra/Wounded Bird, 1980. Used
Classic funky soul from Five Special – tightly crafted throughout, and clearly with an eye on the charts – but also the kind of work that plays nicely on the dancefloor too! The record's got a groove that fits in nicely with some of the lesser-remembered groovers on Elektra at the time ... CD
Legacy, Mid 70s. Used
From a hard soul trio to one of the biggest soul chart acts of the mid 70s, The Emotions had an amazing ride to the top. Although the sisters started out in the field of gospel, then moved through indie labels to cut a few nice raw soul albums for Stax, it was the Chicago soul genius of Maurice ... CD
Curtis In Chicago
Curtom/Charly, Early 70s. Used
Curtis Mayfield, and a heck of a lot of greatness from the Chicago scene of the early 70s – music that comes from a rare TV special that also features guest appearances from Leroy Hutson, Jerry Butler, and Gene Chandler! Don't confuse this one with the 2LP Curtis Live set issued around the ... CD
Impulse, 1960. Used
We might argue with the mathematics in the title – or at least joke that Ray was using equations as titles years before Anthony Braxton – but you can't contest the fact that this one's a classic treat, and a legendary attempt to class up Ray's bluesy style for the masses. Quincy Jones ... CD
Best Of Gil Scott-Heron
Arista, 1984. Used
A nice best-of collection of Gil's work on Arista – issued in the 80s, with Gil looking terrible in a "Members Only" kind of way on the cover, and with the extra new track "Re-Ron", an electro track about Ronald Reagan! Still, there's more than enough nice moments – ... CD

More great soul music than we ever hoped to find in a single place – and a massive 6CD collection that looks at the key year of 1965 at Motown Records! The package is every bit as wonderful and thorough as the others in this series – with a whopping 166 songs collected in a lavish, ... CD

Alston, 1971. Used
A monster bit of funk that's unlike anything else we can think of! Beginning Of The End hailed from The Bahamas, but don't hold that against them – because instead of being a Caribbean cliche, they took the best part of the island rhythms, and used them to forge an incredible approach to ...
