A fabulous furry freakout from Frank Zappa – the start of a legendary run in the late 60s – and a record that is still as mindblowing now as it was all those many years back! There's a deadpan quality to the vocals that's unlike anything other groups were trying for at the time – ... LP, Vinyl record album
One hit wonders – but oh what a hit! Friend & Lover's "Reach Out Of The Darkness" is a really unique little tune that brings together folksy vocals and funky rhythms – a solid jammer that brushed off the cobwebs of the aging folk scene of the 60s, and sprung into the ... LP, Vinyl record album
An early masterpiece from Frank Zappa – one of those records that looks like it's going to be a big ol' mess when you first see the cover – but which turns out to be a carefully calculated act of madness in the end! The Mothers have all their freeform freaky brilliance intact here ... LP, Vinyl record album
Frank Zappa's amazing tribute to the sounds of LA that inspired him in his youth – not just the early rock and roll of the late 50s, but the way the music was picked up and given a home by the scene in East LA! There's a surprising amount of nascent soul elements in the music here – ... LP, Vinyl record album
Tim Hardin's last album for Verve – and a record that has a bit of a different vibe than his previous three sets! A wonderful little album from Tim Hardin – a live session that perfectly sums up all the brilliance of his previous two Verve records, but with an even more intimate, personal vibe! Hardin reprises some of his previous tunes, but also adds in a few more – and works with a very cool ... LP, Vinyl record album
Plum off the deep end folk and psychedelia steeped grooves from deposed Buffalo Springfield bass player Bruce Palmer – a weird one recorded for Verve Forecast – with a '69 copyright date, but we think may have been sat on until '71! It's got 4 songs on it, 3 of them quite long, and to ... LP, Vinyl record album
Quite possibly the greatest moment ever from the legendary Scott Walker – a set that strongly steps beyond even the genius of his first two solo albums, thanks to an amazing assortment of original tunes! Scott's dark vision of masculinity is emerging full-blown here – in an array of ... LP, Vinyl record album
Wild twanginess from this off-beat group that included Kev Hopper on bass and samples. This was the one that was supposed to make them stars, but instead got them shackled to an unfortunate major label contract that smothered them. Too bad, but the records got some nice moments like "Charlton ... LP, Vinyl record album
The second album by Human League – and one that has them really honing their craft a bit, sliding from a world of messed-up broken-down synthesizers into more song-based forms that hint at the genius pop of later years. Things are still pretty darn dark – with vocals that would scare a ... LP, Vinyl record album
