14 Golden Recordings From The Historic Vaults OF Duke/Peacock Records

LP (Item 612146) ABC, Mid 50s-Mid 60s/1973 — Condition: Near Mint-

Features work by Bobby Bland, Johnny Ace, Junior Parker, OV Wright, Joe Hinton, The Casuals, The Rob Roys, The El Torros, and more!  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has a cut corner.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Sting

Pleasure
ABC, 1978. Near Mint-
Not to be confused with the group Pleasure, or the ex-Police leadman Sting – this group are a pretty darn sweet disco trio with a really nice groove! The sound's a bit different than other disco references we might use – not really New York, European, or Canadian – and done with ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dramatics

Dramatic Jackpot
ABC, 1975. Sealed Gatefold
One of the Dramatics' best albums, and a real masterpiece of 70's group soul! Masqueraders

Love Anonymous
ABC, 1977. Very Good
One of the few full albums ever cut by The Masqueraders – a stellar vocal group who recorded some excellent singles in the 60s, and were fortunate enough to be pulled into the big time by Isaac Hayes for his Hot Buttered Soul imprint on ABC! The band mixes their smooth Memphis style with ... LP, Vinyl record album
ABC, 1965. Very Good
Far more than a regular greatest hits – this is a full-fledged album, and one that includes a number of cuts that were singles for the group, but which don't really show up on other albums. Ray Charles & Betty Carter

Ray Charles & Betty Carter
ABC, 1961. Near Mint-
A classic album of soul duets – and one of the deeper records cut by Betty during the 60s! The arrangements are by the great Marty Paich, and although there's some singers in the background, the overall sound is still pretty nice and soulful. Betty's high voice works well with Ray's raspy ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dalton & Dubarri

Success & Failure
ABC, 1976. Near Mint-
Pretty compelling stuff from Gary Dalton and Kent Dubarri – an LA-based team with a soulful rock sound, sort of in the mode of funkier bits on records by the likes of Steely Dan, Hall & Oates, and other 70s crossover acts. The record's a nice one if you dig that AOR Free Soul sound ... LP, Vinyl record album

Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr

I Hope We Get To Love In Time
ABC, 1977. Near Mint-
The first solo album from the team of Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr – and a set that's arguably even more soulful than their work together in The 5th Dimension! The pair are lucky to have Groovesville soul maestro Don Davis at the helm – helping them hit a more mature, more ... LP, Vinyl record album
ABC, 1964. Very Good-
A major winner from The Impressions! Virtually all of their material for ABC was excellent – and this LP is no exception, as it's got loads of original Curtis Mayfield compositions, and plenty of great arrangements by Chicago soul legend Johnny Pate. The group is extremely soulful at this ... LP, Vinyl record album
Ze/Light In The Attic, 1979. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
A brilliant and overlooked gem from the glorious post-disco years of the New York scene – the first album recorded by Lizzy Mercier Descloux, a French native who'd relocated to America in the late 70s, and soaked up a huge array of influences from the scene at the time! The album's a really ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ann Peebles

Tellin' It
Hi Records, 1975. Near Mint-
It's the mid 70s, but Ann's still very much in classic form – with thanks to arrangements and production by Willie Mitchell and backing by Andrew Love, Wayne Jackson, and James Mitchell – and sultry, soulful vocals from Ann! There's a bit more of a groove-oriented production style here ... LP, Vinyl record album
