The Lennon Sisters get groovy – as you might guess from the "Today" title, and from the set of cool 60s covers they perform on the set! The sound here is quite far from Lawrence Welk on Sunday night, and the girls sound great with fab 60s arrangements from Al Capps, and some top-she ... LP, Vinyl record album
Great jazzy work by this excellent singer – a tight set featuring Oscar Brown Jr. performing jazz material written (mostly) by other composers, shifting the focus away from his earlier records, which have more of his own compositions. Ralph Burns and Al Cohn handled the arrangements – ... LP, Vinyl record album
Sarah Vaughan's most stripped-down session – a record that really does just have "plus 2" added to the lady's lovely vocals! Backing here are only by Barney Kessel on guitar and Joe Comfort on bass – accompanying Sarah in a moody, mellow, late nite mode that's far different ... LP, Vinyl record album
Wonderful work from Leon Thomas – easily one of his greatest albums ever, and a set that was recorded at the same time he was working with Pharoah Sanders! Amazing is right – as Nina Simone is really taking off here – showing the world that she's way more than just another jazz singer – able to hit some righteous currents that would only explode even more in years to come! Nina's emotion is subtle, but extremely powerful – ... LP, Vinyl record album
A sweet and jazzy little session from Carmen – an overlooked batch of groovy tunes recorded with small combo backing!
