Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Cannonball Adderley

Inside Straight
Fantasy/OJC, 1973. Used
One of Cannonball Adderley's late funky sessions for Fantasy – and a record that still features some mighty heavy production from David Axelrod! The album's got that core groove that Axe and Cannon first crafted together at Capitol in the 60s – but the sound here has some definite 70s ... CD

David S Ware

Flight Of I
DIW/Columbia, 1992. Used
We'll be the first to admit that David S. Ware has made some clunky records over the years – but we love this album from 1992, and think it's one of the best that he ever made! The record is tighter than most, and Ware is nicely restrained, and locked into a spiritual groove that links him ... CD
Verve, 1950. Used 2 CDs
A fantastic package – a must-have for any fan of older jazz! This CD set reissues material originally packaged in the rare Jazz Scene box set issued by Verve at the end of the 40s – a limited package of 78rpm singles that documented the styles and sounds of modern jazz at the time, ... CD

Sonny Criss

Rockin' In Rhythm
OJC, 1969. Used
One of the best Sonny Criss albums ever – one of our favorites from his late 60s run at Prestige – and that's really saying a lot! The set's a warmly lyrical session that really has Criss opening up, changing up his groove to display the deep growth he'd experienced as a musician in ... CD
Mercury/Mosaic, Late 50s. Used
An incredible leap forward for Max Roach – mindblowing work recorded after the death of Clifford Brown – from albums that include Max Roach + 4, Jazz In 3/4 Time, Max Roach + 4 & More, Max Roach 4 Plays Charlie Parker, Max Roach + 4 On The Chicago Scene, Max Roach + 4 At Newport, ... CD

Dusko Goykovich

Balkan Connection
Enja (Germany), 1995. Used
A lesser-explored corner of the career of trumpeter Dusko Goykovich – and a great one! The album has Dusko working in a bigger band mode than usual – leaving behind the smaller groups of other sessions for a larger ensemble comprised of younger Eastern European players. The feel of ... CD
Think (Japan), 1962. Used
A stone cooker from Hideo Shiraki's crack early 60s quintet – much more a hardbop album than you'd guess from the "twist" in the title and cover! There's a definite Blue Note inspiration here – especially towards the soul jazz side of the spectrum – and all tunes have a ... CD
Savoy (Japan), Late 50s. Used
An incredibly hip batch of tracks from Curtis Fuller – leading a group here that includes Lee Morgan, McCoy Tyner, Milt Hinton, and Roy Haynes. The vibe is straight hardbop – but there's also a darker edge than usual for a Savoy session, perhaps because of Lateef's presence on the set. ... CD

Ornette Coleman

Town Hall 1962
ESP, 1962. Used
A really unique chapter in the career of Ornette Coleman – an album that he produced by himself in 1962, away from any other label – as an effort to showcase the newly freer sounds of his music! The recording's the first in a really groundbreaking stretch for the 60s – and it was ... CD
Casablanca, 1974. Used
A seminal album from Parliament – one that's very very different than the freaky fuzz of their Osmium debut – and which has the tight ensemble really coming down on the money, in the best funky 70s George Clinton mode! The record features a much more stripped down sound – nice ... CD
