An unusual UK appearance by this great trumpeter – in a small group with Don Weller on tenor, Martin Blackwell on piano, Dave Green on bass, and Bryan Spring on drums. Titles include "Africa", "All Blues", and "Poem Song". (In great shape, save for a light stain near the top of the cover.)  © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Impulse, Late 60s. Near Mint- Gatefold
Excellent groovy jazz from the great Emil Richards! The legendary LA vibist is caught live at Donte's – and is playing with Dave Makay on piano and percussion, as well as a bunch of other LA hipsters. The general groove is more jazz oriented than Emil's other records, but still very nice. ... LP, Vinyl record album

Time Has Changed
LC, 1977. Sealed Gatefold
Getting up there in years, and Groove Merchant has given way to Sonny Lester's LC label – but O'Donel is still a dope guitar player, and this LP has some tasty cuts like "Butta", which may be the first time the dairy product was used on a record to signify dopeness! The groove is ... LP, Vinyl record album

Soaring and soulful work from the legendary John Coltrane – a tremendous live set that's one of his best early 60s albums! The groove is open and free – filled with pulsating modal rhythms, and handled with a slightly more relaxed feeling than some of Trane's studio work from the same ... LP, Vinyl record album

Newmanism
Atlantic, 1974. Very Good-
Sweet electric grooving from David Newman – a great little album cut with Roy Ayers on vibes and Pat Rebillot on electric piano – both of whom bring a very different feel to the set than Newman's work of the 60s! The style is warm and tight, but never too smooth – as there's ... LP, Vinyl record album
