Shakedown Street

LP (Item 609850) Arista, 1978 — Condition: Near Mint-
Gatefold
A big late 70s moment for the Grateful Dead – a set that has the group working with Lowell George in the production chair, and cooking up a roots rock blend that showed up on plenty of turntables at the time! The record's kind of an extension of the territory of Terrapin Station, but maybe more catchy overall, and with that warmer, song-based mode that marked the Dead's Arista years – really emphasized on some tracks by the presence of Donna Godchaux in the group. Titles include "Serengetti", "Fire On The Mountain", "I Need A Miracle", "Good Lovin", "France", "Shakedown Street", "If I Had The World To Give", and "All New Minglewood Blues".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Limited 180 gram Audio Fidelity pressing in a gatefold cover – #0277. Vinyl has a cosmetic press flaw at the edge but play is not affected.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Grateful Dead

Terrapin Station
Arista, 1977. Near Mint-
The first Grateful Dead album on Arista, and a set that definitely marks a new chapter for the group – one that has them using a surprising amount of soul references in their music, in part through some heavy vocal contributions from Donna Jean Godchaux! The arrangements are fuller than ... LP, Vinyl record album

Grateful Dead

Workingman's Dead
Warner, 1970. Very Good
One of the first giant hits by the Grateful Dead – and a record that has the group tightening things up a bit more, and stepping into some of the country-tinged territory of The Byrds and Flying Burrito Brothers! Turns out, the move is a great one – as the songs come across with a real ... LP, Vinyl record album

Grateful Dead

Wake Of The Flood
Grateful Dead, 1973. Near Mint-
The first album issued by the Grateful Dead on their own label – a setting that might make you think they'd act with less control than when at Warner Brothers, but which actually seems to have them doing the reverse! The whole thing's a great back-to-basics effort – sharp songs, rootsy ... LP, Vinyl record album
Arista, 1980. Very Good+
A really hard-hitting and heavy-jamming album from Gong – far more so than you might guess from the cover! The album really has Gong moving fully into fusion for the set – working in a mode that's driven by plenty of heavy drums on most tracks – as tunes stretch out to quite some ... Iggy Pop

New Values
Arista, 1979. Very Good+ Gatefold
One of the great earlier solo records from Iggy – capping off the 70s here with a bang! New Values finds Iggy a real peak point for edgy, yet accessible songwriting – a talent he no doubt honed in the preceding few years of working with David Bowie. The production is great here, too ... One of Iggy's better solo albums – with all the manic vocals you'd want and expect, but with some really cool production touches and oddball, yet accessible songs.
