Cry Baby & 11 Other Hits

LP (Item 6097) United Artists, 1965 — Condition: Very Good

An excellent early Garnet Mimms LP on United Artists – one of the few albums he recorded (period!), and cut featuring vocal backings by his group The Enchanters. We looooove Garnet's vocals to death, rank them up there with the best of the 60s underground – singers like Darrell Banks or JJ Barnes – and the arrangements, writing, and production on the album is superb all the way through, a real no-filler effort that makes for that rare totally solid soul album. Tracks include "Cry To Me", "Runaway Lover", "So Close", "Don't Change Your Heart", "Wanting You", "A Quiet Place", and lots lots more!  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Black label stereo pressing. Cover has bent corners, small seam splits, pieces of clear tape on the spine, and a squiggle of pen on back.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Very Best Of Little Anthony & The Imperials
United Artists, Mid 60s. Very Good
Anthony and crew were one of the few groups who actually got better when they moved from the raw indie scene to the slicker major label one – as you'll hear perfectly on this set of some of their best work for the Veep/DCP/United Artists label. Ike Turner

Blues Roots
United Artists, 1972. Very Good Gatefold
album's not lying with the title – as it's a rootsy album of electric blues numbers. Searing guitar, raw drums, horns, bass and piano – played by Ike alone! . Titles include "The Things I Used To Do", "Right On", "Goin Home", "Think", "That ... LP, Vinyl record album

Little Anthony & The Imperials

Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind
United Artists, Late 60s. Very Good+
Of all their early harmony soul contemporaries, Little Anthony and the group were one of the few to really stick to a solid vocal style – working here even at a late date with an approach that can still take our breath away! The album's a mixture of uptempo 60s soul tracks and other smoother ... LP, Vinyl record album

Nice compilation of tracks that features some of Jerry's finest (and famous) moments for the Vee Jay label. Noel Pointer

Hold On
United Artists, 1976. Near Mint-
Early work from Noel Pointer – recorded in a smooth, soulful mode with plenty of help on arrangements and production from Dave Grusin! Roy Ayers

You Send Me
Polydor, 1978. Very Good+
A masterpiece – and don't pass it up! Tamla, 1966. Near Mint-
The Isley Brothers on Motown – a really key step forward for the group, who find a whole new level of soul with help from the Holland Dozier Holland team! An instant classic the day it was released – and a perfect blending of the group's older freaked-out style with a slick late 70s funk sound that started showing up in the work of many other groups.
