Caballo Negro Y Otros Exitos Con Perez Prado Y Su Orquesta

LP (Item 609054) RCA/Camden, 1960s — Condition: Near Mint-

A nice collection – not the over-collected 50s hits of Perez Prado, but more obscure later work – most likely only issued in Mexico. Titles include "La Tomica", "Mambo Latino", "Caballo Negro", "Jumbo Jumbo", "Alekum Salem", and "Broadway Mambo".  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(US Carino pressing. Cover has light wear.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Twist Goes Latin
RCA, 1962. Very Good+
Perez was always willing to alter his groove to fit the times and the mood – and this set is one of his first forays into the groovier sound that would dominate most of his 60s work for other labels. A real Latin standard of the 50s – packaged with a title and a cover that perfectly evoke the lure of pre-Castro Cuba at its best – and played by Perez Prado with a style that's more open and flowing than some of his earlier singles! One of the more masterful albums that Prado cut for RCA, and a thrilling set of tracks with a very haunting feel. A great collaboration between Perez Prado and trumpeter Shorty Rogers – one in which Rogers' solos sparkle brilliantly over the top of Perez's tight Latin rhythms – all in a style that's as moody as it is evocative and rhythmic! A set recorded by RCA in 1958 – featuring a few new numbers, plus a number of classics, redone by Cugie in a nice jazzy style that we like better than his earlier work! Sid Ramin did a few arrangements for the record – and titles include "Mambo No 5", "Baia", "G ... LP, Vinyl record album
