Although the title of the film (and book, and TV series) soon became a synonym for sex and sin, the largely orchestral score to the movie is far less sexy than you'd expect. Franz Waxman handled the scoring of the film in pretty much the same way as he'd handled a lot of his other classic Hollywood work – with poise and sophistication. The orchestrations for the soundtrack are very complex, with many romantic and dramatic themes running through the entire album – and the overall effect is strong, but very traditional. Titles include "The Rape", "Chase In The Woods", "After The Party", "Rossi's Visit", and "Swimming Scene". (Late 70s pressing.)  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Great grooviness from Neal Hefti – working here at the height of his 60s powers! The film stars Robert Morse, Barbara Harris, and Jonathan Winters – and the score's got a 60s screwball approach that mixes organ, woodwinds, percussion, and bits of strings together, all filtered through ... Kind of nutty stuff from this weird Blake Edwards film that starred James Coburn and Dick Shawn. The material's not as jazz-based as some of Mancini's other scores, but it does have a delightfully nutty sound that's in keeping with the kind of mad 60s film it was written for. A very nice soundtrack for this obscure film loosely based on the novel by Joyce – clearly a tough task, given the scope of the original book! A strange film, but a great soundtrack! George Duning came up with an excellent batch of jazzy tracks for the film – and most of them swing hard and tightly, with strong jazzy solos, in a manner that's similar to some of Mancini's best scores of the late 50s.
