We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Groundbreaking early work from James! We're not sure when "Let Yourself Go" was released – but it's got these fantastic guitars on the beat, very much in the "Papa's Brand New Bag" or "Out Of Sight" mode, although a bit rawer and rootsier. Proof though, that ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Mid 70's funk, with a slight kind of "club" feel to it, but still with the tight grooves that James was laying down at the time. Arranged by JB and Fred Wesley – so there's still a nice funk component to the tune. 7-inch, Vinyl record

Niceness! "Let Me Wrap You In My Love" is a great mellow sweet soul cut from Paulette's Secret Lover LP, and it's got a beautiful warm groove, and a totally tight hook to it. We think it's the best cut on the album, too, and you never ever see the LP! 7-inch, Vinyl record

A classic JBs single – with a non-LP b-side! "Gimme Some More" is a stone classic by the group – a proud and stomping funk song, with a catchy refrain that starts from the first beat, and which really wails as the tune goes on! "Rabbit" is a rare one with an ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Nice one! "Soul Strut" is a great groovy Chicago funk track, with a tight beat and a very nice groove to it. The cut's got a great drum break at the beginning – plus rolling downbeat piano, and some great twangy guitar! Floyd does the calls over the music – in a mode that's ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
