(€14.01 || £11.99 || ¥1681) (approx.)

A slightly offensive title, but a set that features some great percussion from Montego Joe – in a much wider range than his usual Latin grooves! Marie Brooks narrates, and there's other drummers working with Joe – in a really wicked groove that's almost urged on by Marie's shouts and calls!  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

MCA, 1972. Very Good Gatefold
A really wonderful third album from Osibisa – and a record that really crystallizes the group's sound into a trademark blend of African roots and more progressive-styled jamming! There's a mode here that's perfect for the cross-cultural London of the post-colonial 70s – a style that ... LP, Vinyl record album

Interesting album. Although most Nonesuch Explorer sessions were ethnographic ones, recorded in the field by the label's engineers – this one's a studio session, recorded in New York by a group that's reputedly from Ghana, but which seems to be kind of a "fake" one from our ... Decca, 1971. Very Good+ Gatefold
These early Osibisa records always used to be fairly common years back – perhaps because they were always a bit too hippy dippy and loose for the older funk crowd. Osibisa's smoothing things up a bit by this point – going for a groove that's partially African-inspired, but which also has some mainstream Caribbean touches, and an overall approach that uses more mainstream R&B styles than on some of their previous records. Celluloid, 1985. Very Good+
While we have more or less dismissed a lot of the Celluloid world music productions from the 80s in the past, we look back now and realize that was pretty much just purist snobbery. This Laswell produced album of funky afro grooves doesn't have the same hard African funk that we dig so much about ... LP, Vinyl record album
