Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially

cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
Joe Sample's sitting at a grand piano on the cover, and that image is a nice tip-off to the sound within – an approach that has Joe hitting some more sophisticated acoustic passages at points, while still opening up into the soulful groove we'd expect from his legacy as a core member of The ... A fusion classic from keyboardist Joe Sample – exactly the kind of record that really helped him carve a name for himself away from The Crusaders! There's a vibe here that's a bit deeper than some of Joe's work with that famous group – keyboard lines that are more introspective at some ... LP, Vinyl record album
A live set from Deodato – but one that's very much in the mode of his best CTI studio sessions – with soaring, over the top keyboard work that's totally great – backed by some tightly compressed guitar, bass, and drums, with just enough funk in the mix to keep things interesting! ... Shades of Joy were one of those cool little sixties bands that fell through the cracks – a San Francisco based, racially-mixed jazz group that had rock leanings, but did some neat groovy stuff. We like some of the instrumental cuts on here, but especially love "Icarus Revealed", a ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of the last records made by avant sax legend Albert Ayler – a really mind-expanding album that's unlike anything else he ever did! By the time of the record, Ayler had made a full round trip between the New York and European jazz scenes – leaving important influences wherever he ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of the key records from the Cadet/Concept scene in late 60s Chicago – a tremendous collaboration between pianist Ramsey Lewis and arranger Charles Stepney – and the kind of record that took soul and jazz to a whole new level! Ramsey on his own is great enough at this point – ... LP, Vinyl record album
More of a soul album than a jazz album – and a stripped-down mellow set that has Les singing and playing keyboards with a quartet that includes Miroslaw Kudykowski on guitar. Cuts include "Everywhere I Go, People Ask Me a Question", "Woman, Come Home", "I've Been ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of our favorite Ramsey Lewis albums of all time – an incredible reworking of tunes by The Beatles, done in collaboration with Cadet Records studio maestro Charles Stepney – who brings in some amazing arrangements and production styles to the record! The tunes are familiar, but the ... LP, Vinyl record album
