Interpretations

LP (Item 60680) Muse, 1982 — Condition: Near Mint-
One of Ford's extremely strong albums from the early 80s – a soulful expression of hardbop, recorded at a time when albums like this were an extremely rare breed! The set features Ford blowing with a well-matched set of players – including Bobby Watson on alto, Wallace Roney on trumpet, and John Hicks on piano. Nearly all tunes are originals, and titles include "Bostonova", "Dexter", "Lady A", "Fix Or Repair Daily", and "Se Aabba".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Muse, 1982. Very Good
An overlooked fusion set from the mighty Muse Records – an early 80s date recorded under the leadership of keyboardist Mitch Farber, and featuring work from Randy Brecker on trumpet, Gary Campbell on tenor and soprano, and Steve Khan on guitar! Lester Bowie

Fast Last!
Muse, 1974. Near Mint-
One of the excellent avant sides for Muse from the early 70's, and a record that features Lester Bowie playing in a number of different settings – all with a sound that's different from his Art Ensemble recordings, and from his work for ECM. One track has him playing a duet with pianist John ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tiny Grimes

Profoundly Blue
Muse, 1973. Very Good+
Late recording by bluesy jazz guitarist Tiny Grimes, recorded with a host of the usual Muse suspects, like Houston Person, Harold Mabern, and Freddie Waits. There's an electric bass on the session, which pumps up Grimes' guitar a little bit more than usual (as if it needed pumping!), and the ... LP, Vinyl record album

James Moody

Never Again!
Muse, 1972. Very Good
Nice tight back-to-basics session by Moody that has him playing with an organ combo. Mickey Tucker's on the keys, Roland Wilson plays bass, and Eddie Gladden handles the drum chores. Moody's on tenor all the way, with no flute at all, and the tracks include "Freedom Jazz Dance", "Ne ... LP, Vinyl record album

Creative Construction Company Vol 2
Muse, 1970/1976. Near Mint-
A really wonderful group – and one who might also be called the Chicago Creative Construction Company – as the combo has a fair bit of contributions from members of the AACM! There's an openly inventive spirit here that's quite similar to early Art Ensemble Of Chicago records, with ... LP, Vinyl record album

Miles Davis

Sketches Of Spain
Columbia, 1960. Near Mint-
A beautiful collaboration between Miles Davis and the great Gil Evans – and perhaps the most perfectly realized of all their projects! The album's got a wonderfully unified feel – as it begins with long compositions that have a distinct Spanish-tinge (and not a Latin-tinge, which is an ... LP, Vinyl record album

Wayne Shorter

All Seeing Eye
Blue Note, 1965. Sealed
One of the more avant-oriented 60s sessions cut by Wayne Shorter for Blue Note – a record that's not entirely part of the "new thing" generation, but which definitely has Shorter pushing the boundaries from his previous records for the label! The lineup here is a key batch of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Eugen Cicero

Rokoko-Jazz
MPS, 1965. Near Mint-
One of the greatest jazz-meets-classical albums from pianist Eugen Cicero – thanks to a good amount of Rokoko in the grooves! The more flowery, flourishing style of the Rokoko era proves to be a perfect foil for Cicero's incredible approach to the keys – one that lets him bring even ... LP, Vinyl record album
