Shake – A Change Is Gonna Come

LP (Item 60674) RCA, 1965 — Condition: Very Good
Collection of Sam Cooke's wonderful soul for RCA, compiled just after his untimely death. The set's divided into more uptempo numbers on the first side, and Sam's great ballads on the flip, all with his rich voice ringing clearly on top. Features "Shake", "Yeah Man", 'Win Your Love For Me", "It's Got The Whole World Shakin", "A Change Is Gonna Come", "I'm Just A Country Boy" and "Ease My Troublin Mind".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Stereo pressing with deep groove. Cover has minimal wear.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Keen, 1959. Sealed
An early gem from the great Sam Cooke – a pre-RCA session, but one that already has Sam showing a stronger jazzy side of his talents – as you might guess from the title! The Lady, in this case, is the late Billie Holiday – recently passed at the time of this recording, and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Try A Little Love
RCA, 1965. Near Mint-
Released shortly after Sam's death, this is a beautiful batch of ballad tracks to remember how sweet his voice was. The production's a bit pop, but Sam's singing is as heavenly as ever. Titles include "When A Boy Falls In Love", "Try A Little Love", "Bridge Of Tears" ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sam Cooke

Hits Of The 50s
RCA, 1960. Very Good+
A classic set of soulful vocals – one in which Sam Cooke sings hits of the 50s (as you'd guess from the title) – but not necessarily his own hits, more a selection of work by other artists – all given a really unique spin by Sam! And while other soul artists occasionally faltered ... LP, Vinyl record album

Best Of Sam Cooke
RCA, Early 60s. Very Good+

RCA, 1966. Very Good+
A posthumous collection of material that Sam recorded for RCA before his untimely death – not really a greatest hits collection, but a lot better than the usual "house cleaning" type of record that gets issued in this sort of situation! Sam Cooke

Night Beat
RCA, 1963. Good
Wonderful mellow work from Sam Cooke – and a set that's recorded with a sound that's very much in keeping with the "night beat" that you might expect from the title! In fact, there's not so much a "beat" as a simple easy groove – a gentle sort of "night" ... LP, Vinyl record album
RCA, 1975. Near Mint-
An excellent LP by one of the most underrecognized talents of 70's soul! DJ's deep soul voice is smooth and mellow, with the kind of honest heartbreaking quality that you find in the best work by Donny Hathaway and Stevie Wonder. This great LP's got DJ in a nice set of arrangements that have a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jesse Belvin's Best
RCA/Camden, Late 50s/Early 60s. Near Mint-
Excellent work from Jesse Belvin – a vastly underrated smooth soul singer, one who forms a crucial link between Nat King Cole and Sam Cooke, and who would have been as big as either of them, had he not died a tragic early death. Titles include "My Last Goodbye", "Guess ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jose Feliciano

Alive Alive O!
RCA, 1969. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
A beautiful little live album from Jose Feliciano – recorded in London at the end of the 60s, with a sound that's often more stripped down than his studio work of the time! Jose's on vocals and guitar, backed by only a bit of bass and percussion – so the record's almost got the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Main Ingredient

LTD
RCA, 1970. Very Good+
A wonderful debut from The Main Ingredient – and a record that really shows the new style they'd bring to group soul music in the 70s! There's a righteous energy here right from the start – a mode that echoes some of the earlier New York groups of the late 60s, but which also focuses ... LP, Vinyl record album

Milky Way
RCA, 1979. Very Good
Tight, funky, and plenty darn groovy – a set that has Chocolate Milk sounding a lot smoother than at their start, but still pretty darn great overall!
