West coast R&B from singer Calvin Boze – material from 78s that includes "Fish Tail", "Stinkin From Drinkin", "I Can't Stop Crying", "Beale Street On A Saturday Night", "Good Time Sue", "Safronia B", and "Looped".  © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

This Boot Is Made For Fonk-N
Warner, 1979. Very Good
Bootsy's still keeping the P-Funk flag flying high at the end of the 70s – arguably stepping out here with a sound that's got more of the Parliafunkadelicment elements intact than some of George Clinton's other spinoff groups! The tracks are long, and plenty jamming – still with plenty ... LP, Vinyl record album

Instant Groove
Atco, 1969. Very Good
An instant groove from King Curtis – and a record that's even more deeply soulful than some of his other Atlantic albums! The title cut's a killer – a hard-vamping number that pushed funk further into the mainstream back in the day – and lots of the rest of the album follows suit ... LP, Vinyl record album

Taste Of Honey
Capitol, 1978. Very Good+
Probably the most successful album the Mizell Brothers ever produced, and a fine set of uptempo groovers from this female soul duet! There's some nice jazzy moments underneath the catchy lyrics, and in a way, the album's style is sort of a blueprint for the sound that would emerge over the next ... LP, Vinyl record album

Hypnotized
Polydor, 1972. Very Good+ Gatefold
A bit soul, a bit rock, with touches of funky folk – almost in the mode of Ellen McIlwaine, who was clearly one of Martha's contemporaries in the hip female singer/songwriter scene. Titles include "Two Bridges", "Black Rose", "Space King", "Livin Outside ... LP, Vinyl record album
