A killer bit of harmony soul – one of the greatest of the genre from the 70s! Brighter Side Of Darkness are barely remembered these days – but "Love Jones" is one of those cuts that will go on forever – a sweetly tripped out number with incredibly baroque production, matched only by the incredibly great vocals of the youthful group! "I'm The Guy" is a bit more conventional, but still a great harmony cut too!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

I Owe You Love/Summer Ride
20th Century, 1973. Near Mint-
2 beautiful tracks of group soul by this lost Chicago group. "I Owe You Love" is a smooth ballad cut, with a very nice descending chorus that's extremely catchy. "Summer Ride" is a remake of a track done by the Sandpebbles, and is a very nice groover! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Does Your Mama Know About Me/Fading Away
Gordy, 1968. Good
Two fantastic numbers from one of our favorite 60s groups! "Does Your Mama Know" is about as great as you can get for 60s deep soul – with an anthemic hook that will send chills down your spine from the first minute you hear it! "Fading Away" is a great mellow number, ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Wonderful! "It's A Shame" is one of the Spinners' best cuts! It's got a totally groovy hook, great strident arrangements, and a harmony soul feel that goes waaaay over the top! Tough to find on vinyl, too! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Bell, 1967. Good
Although "For Your Precious Love" wasn't originally Oscar's song, he opened the cut up into a whole new level with this semi-hit version from the late 60s. The track has beautiful southern production, and it expands on the original Impressions' version very nicely! The flipside is more ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Latin soul madness – and one of the biggest underground hits of the 60s!
