Mass Production 83

LP (Item 604912) Cotillion, 1983 — Condition: Used

LP, Vinyl record album

The last Mass Production album for Atlantic Records – and a set that definitely has the group picking up a new direction in their style! The groove is a bit leaner than before – more keyboards instead of larger funk ensemble elements – fused in a sweet groove that bubbles with more electro funk touches than previous sets – almost a nod to the Minneapolis sound of Prince and his contemporaries, but carried off with the Mass Production sharpness we'd expect. Titles include "Sun Dancer", "Time Bomb", "Victory 83", "Style", "Chasing Rainbows", and "Don't Stop Believing". (Cover has a tracklist sticker & promo stamp.)  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Cotillion, 1980. Very Good+
Great smooth soul from Wee Gee – a wonderful little record from the dawn of the 80s! The album's a great one, thanks largely to Vernon Bullock, who wrote, arranged, and produced with that uptempo modern style that he brought to his best work of the 70s. The soaring title track is a 10+ ... LP, Vinyl record album
We Are Family
Cotillion, 1979. Near Mint-
Possibly the greatest moment ever from Sister Sledge – a set that has the Philly quartet teaming with the Chic team of Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards! Born Again
Cotillion, 1971. Very Good Gatefold
A sophisticated batch of jazzy tracks that really opens the group's style up way way past the stock form of some of their Brunswick recordings. Attitude
Cotillion/Wounded Bird, 1983. Near Mint-
The third album for Cotillion by Stevie Woods, and the last we'd hear of him – a sweet 80s groover set that's as inviting and hooky as the others – bright, crossover 80s synth soul and uber memorable melodies. Woods records were full of hooks and catchy tunes, and this one carries on ... LP, Vinyl record album
Show & Tell
Cotillion, 1982. Near Mint-
A great set from a group who should have been huge – a surprisingly well put-together vocal trio, featuring lead vocals from Limon Wilson, and great harmonies from Derrell Jackson and Joe Williams! Cotillion, 1970. Very Good
A classic album of Memphis soul instrumentals – played by the combo who worked on most of the best Memphis vocal sessions of the 60s! Cotillion, 1969. Very Good

An incredible album – a landmark piece of funk that nobody should be without, funk fan or not! Quite possibly the funkiest album ever from Pleasure – and that's saying a heck of a lot!
