❔

A pretty wonderful tribute to the pioneering talents of conga great Chano Pozo and jazz trumpet giant Dizzy Gillespie – led by Poncho Sanchez and Terrence Blanchard! The set gets off to an incredible start on a medley in which the players so deftly blend Latin percussion, vocals and rhythms with Diz-indebted jazz – and that high quality is maintained throughout! Exciting, passionate play from the leaders and a group that includes Tony Banda on bass, Rob Hardt on sax, David Torres on piano, Francisco Torres on trombone and others. Includes "Chano Pozo Medley: Tin Tim Deo/Manteca/Guachi Guaro", Dizzy's incredible "Con Alma" and "Groovin' High", "Wandering Wonder", "Siboney", "Dizzy's Dashiki", "Nocturna", "Promenade", "Arinanara" and "Jack's Dilemma".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Latino Con Soul
Pacific Jazz, 1966. Used
A heck of a great Latin Soul album – one of the best of the 60s, and pretty darn rare as well! The set's the only one we've ever seen from leader Joe Torres – and it's an incredible blend of soul jazz and Latin rhythms that was one of the few west coast sessions of its type! Normally, ... CD

"Everything But The Kitchen Sink" – or so says the title of this groover! But who needs the kitchen sink, when you've got the great vocals of Ismael Rivera, backed by the lively band of Cortijo? Rivera and Cortijo are always a good combination – and this album's one of their ... CD

Fantastic stuff, and proof that Rosemary Clooney was always one heck of a great singer – with strengths in jazz that you didn't always hear in her pop work! As you'd guess from the cover, Duke Ellington's leading the group on the album – and most of the tracks here are older Ellington ... CD
