LP, Vinyl record album

(€0.83 || £0.74 || ¥111) (approx.)

Instrumental sounds from one of Sinatra's favorite arrangers. (Turquoise label pressing. Cover has light wear.)  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Capitol, Early 50s. Very Good
The notes say that the album is "the rare plum of authenticity". We don't know if we'd go that far, but we can tell you that the record features Yma performing songs of the legendary Jivaro headhunters! Supposedly, Yma learned them in her "South American jungle-home", but we ... LP, Vinyl record album
Space Escapade
Capitol, Late 50s. Very Good
One of the rarest albums by Les Baxter – and one of the best! The record features an excellent batch of "space exotica" tracks, set amidst some very lively arrangements, all packaged in one of the greatest album covers of the 50s! Les' writing and leading are as excellent as ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tartaglian Theorem
Capitol, 1968. Very Good
Sweet and dreamy instrumental pop from John Andrews Tartaglia – an arranger we only know from a few late 60s sides at Capitol Records – all of which are pretty great! Tartaglia's got a style that's still heavy in mainstream 60s easy modes, but borrows a fair bit from the generation of ... LP, Vinyl record album
Capitol, Early 50s. Very Good
Early work from Yma Sumac – with that moody mix of other worldly vocals and semi-Latin instrumentation that made her a popular one with the early exotic crowd. Yma runs up and down the vocal scale, while Moises Vivanco leads the band in a set of crashing dramatic orchestrations with a ... LP, Vinyl record album
Teen Drums
Capitol, Late 60s. Very Good+
One of Les Baxter's best for Capitol! Forget the "teen" in the title, because this is a super-hip album filled with great percussion tracks. More than a few of the numbers have a Latiny groove – mixing strong exotica scoring with rawer percussion than usual, and some occasional ... LP, Vinyl record album
Swingin' Fling
Capitol, Late 50s. Very Good
Alvino Rey's swinging "wow-wow" guitar sounds a lot like Esquivel's use of pedal steel, and this album's a great bunch of work in that vein, with swinging strident arrangements that mix the guitar and baritone sax solos. Great hip bachelor pad ... LP, Vinyl record album
Capitol, Early 50s. Very Good
The core of the set is a love-based suite by Jackie Gleason and C Dudley King! Titles include "Desire", "Flirtation", "Temptation", and "Enchantment". LP, Vinyl record album
It's A Bossa Nova World
Capitol, 1963. Very Good
It's definitely a bossa nova world when Laurinda Almeida's around – given that the player first got the whole sound going in the 50s, then returned the favor in the 60s with some great albums like this for Capitol Records! The set's a bright blend of LA jazz and bossa rhythms – played ... LP, Vinyl record album
Wild Stereo Drums
Capitol, Early 60s. Near Mint-
Compilation of Capitol artists doing material designed to show off rhythmic stereo patterns. Les Baxter does a couple exotica things, and Dick Harrell delivers two cool rockin' drum tracks. There's a total of 9 tracks in all, including "Bangkok Beat", "Blue Rhumba" and "Bo ... LP, Vinyl record album
Capitol, Mid 60s. Very Good
Jimmie's always been one of the overlooked greats of the arranging business – and he's got a hip style that we'd compare to that of Jack Nietzsche, another excellent LA arranger from the same generation.
