Three – Shelly Manne Vol 3 (10 inch LP)

LP (Item 60260) Contemporary, 1954 — Condition: Very Good+
Excellent early work from Shelly Manne – an early 10" session that featured Manne on drums, Shorty Rogers on trumpet, and Jimmy Giuffre on tenor, clarinet, and baritone. The sound is very free, but still swinging with a strong rhythmic pulse – and in a way, it presages some of Giuffre's later experimental trio recordings for Atlantic. The trio work their way – bass and piano-less – through tunes that include "Pas De Trois", "Flip", "Abstract No 1", and "Steeplechase".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Mono yellow label pressing with deep groove – a nice copy!)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Easily one of Barney Kessel's greatest records – done with a really surprising quartet lineup that includes Bobby Hutcherson on vibes, Chuck Domanico on bass, and Elvin Jones on drums! Sonny Rollins

Way Out West
Contemporary, 1957. Near Mint-
A classic set that brings the east coast tenor of Sonny Rollins into contact with a west coast rhythm section of Ray Brown and Shelly Manne! Indestructible
Blue Note, 1964. Near Mint-
Maybe one of the most famous records ever from master drummer Art Blakey – in part because of the cover, which has come to stand for the Blue Note aesthetic of the 60s!
