A decades-spanning set celebrating 25 years of Expansion Records – featuring great contemporary and earlier work from legends such as Leon Ware, Keni Burke and Leo's Sunshipp, modern greats Kindred The Family Soul, Adriana Evans and Kloud 9 and more! Expansion has long stood out for their appreciation of soul legends who endure as well as recent acts working in a timeless soul groove with a modern vision – and this set does a great job of carrying the torch for both. New material from legends, late 70s & 80s grooves appearing on CD for the first time and other choice soul numbers from our friends at Expansion. 16 tracks in all: ""Whatever It Takes (Joey Negro Extended Club Mix)" by Shirley Jones & Jean Cane, "So Real" by Keni Burke, "Step By Step" by Leon Ware, "Dreaming" by Kuh Ledesma, "Magic Happen" by Kindred The Family Soul, "Just A Simple Love" by Sheree Brown, "Give Me The Sunshine" by Leo's Sunshipp, "The Bottle" by Maysa Leak and many more.  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Marc Staggers

Key To My Heart
Expansion (UK), 2011. Used
Warm, smooth as silk soul from Mark Staggers – working in a style rooted in the 70s and early 80s sound of some of our favorites of that era – mature, charismatic and timeless. Mark reminds a bit of Luther Vandross – classic-styled, but contemporary. Lots of sweet keys in the ... CD

Muzart

Muzart
Expansion (UK), 2013. Used
A tremendous little record from Muzart – upbeat, positive, and wonderfully grooving right from the start – served up in a beautiful blend of club rhythms and righteous soul, all with a sense of precision that we haven't heard this well in years! The vibe here is a bit contemporary, but ... CD

D'Angelo

Brown Sugar
Capitol, 1995. Used
A record that was an instant classic from the moment it was first released – and a set that's still pretty darn pleasing all these many years later! At a time when mainstream soul was often too smooth or too poppy, D'Angelo came along and not only found a way to return the music to the years ... CD
Motown, 2008. Used
Badu is back with some of the deepest, funkiest and best music of her career – a mindblowing treatise for a New Amerykah – and what we'll consider an instant classic whether the world at large catches on or not! Erykah steps up this time with a set that balances the wilder impulses ... CD
7 Bridges, 1997. Used
A wonderful bit of jazzy soul – kind of in the mode of Monday Michiru, but with a bit of a bay area twist. Female vocalist Rad sings and plays keyboards on the record – giving the tracks a nice mellow soul feel with some work on Fender Rhodes, mini moog, and other keyboards – and ... CD

Kofy Brown (The Real Kofy Brown)

Love Warrior
Simba, 2004. Used
Kofy Brown's back in action – and even better than before – stepping forth with a tremendously well-crafted album – one that pushes her funky soul sound even further than before! The set's got a really classic feel – tight rhythms awash in nice instrumental touches – ... CD
Skoolcraft, 2005. Used
A stunning debut from Havana – a really compelling set, and one with a sound to bridge a number of different scenes at once! At one level, Havana's got a smoothness that could easily put her in the forefront of mainstream soul – but at another, she also has a keen ear for a more ... CD

Carleen Anderson

Blessed Burden
Virgin, 1998. Used
Great work from one of the most distinctive voices in soul music – the amazing Carleen Anderson, daughter of James Brown luminaries Vicki Anderson and Bobby Byrd! Carleen's style is a bit more restrained and sophisticated on this set than on some earlier work – but in a good way, one ... CD

Jazzhole

Blackburst
Beave, 2000. Used
Great work by one of the best things going on the New York scene – the soulful Jazzhole, a great group with a really unique sound! There's elements of soul, jazz, and funk bubbling throughout most of the record – but the group's also got influences that span the globe, and which bring ... CD

Jose James

Dreamer
Brownswood (UK), 2007. Used
The stunning debut of a really tremendous talent – a singer we'd put right up there with Jon Lucien or Terry Callier for his uniquely soulful approach to music! Like both of those previous stars, Jose James has a voice that's completely his own – a way of approaching a tune that ... CD

Starchild & The New Romantic

Language
Ghostly International, 2018. Used
Starchild here sings with a group called New Romantic – a really great name, given the 80s vibe of the set! Yet the music isn't the soft electro pop of the UK new romantics – as the groove here is more funky soul, but with a slightly sexy vibe – almost in the legacy of some of ... CD
