Gems (10 inch record)

LP (Item 601001) Columbia, 1951 — Condition: Very Good+
Originally: 14.99
With John Simmons on bass and Shadow Wilson on drums.  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has light wear and aging.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Inside II
Columbia, 1972. Very Good+ Gatefold

Like Inside, it's a solo ... LP, Vinyl record album

Wilbert Longmire

With All My Love
Tappan Zee/Columbia, 1980. Very Good+ Gatefold
Sweet later work from guitarist Wilbert Longmire – a warm mixture of soul and funky jazz – and easily one of the better records to come from the Tappan Zee label at the time! Visions Of The Emerald Beyond

Very spacey work from Mahavishnu Orchestra – a set that continues the change in sound explored by the second incarnation of the group – one that's much more spacious than the first! Coleman Hawkins & Clark Terry

Back In Bean's Bag
Columbia, Early 60s. Very Good+
A way different album than usual for both tenor giant Coleman Hawkins, and up-and-coming trumpet talent Clark Terry – a very soulful set that falls much more into the spirit of the few soul jazz gems on early 60s Epic/Columbia Records! This could be because Dave Bailey's holding down the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Heavy Weather
Columbia, 1977. Near Mint-
One of the biggest hits ever for Weather Report – thanks to Joe Zawinul's leadoff track "Birdland" – one of those tunes that entered the canon immediately, and saw countless covers pop up over the years – kind of a rare thing for a jazz tune at this point in time!
