Historia Da Musica Popular Brasileira (10 inch LP & booklet)

LP (Item 59954) Abril Cultural (Brazil), 1960s/1978 — Condition: Very Good+
A wonderful package of rare bossa work! The set is a great tribute to Lyra and bossa composers Roberto Menescal, Moacir Santos, and Oscar Castro Neves – and it features some of their best songs in classic renditions, packaged in a cover with a 12 page booklet that's filled with great color photos and notes. Titles include "O Barquinho" by Joao Gilberto, "Maria Do Maranhao" and "Preciso Aprender A Ser So" by Elis Regina, "Marcha Da Quarta Feira De Cinzas" by Os Bossais, "Nana" by Moacir Santos, "Onde Esta Voce" by Alaide Costa, and "Influencia Do Jazz" and "Primavera" by Carlos Lyra.  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

A rare 80s set from Astrud Gilberto – cut at a time when she was hardly doing any new recording at all! Beautiful! This is perhaps one of the greatest records ever by this legendary Brazilian vocal group – and the album's a stunning mix of post-bossa arrangements, and the more baroque sort that some Brazilian groups were using at the time. Roberto Menescal produced the album – and one ... LP, Vinyl record album

Walter Wanderley

O Sucesso E Samba
Odeon (Brazil), 1968. Fair
Great stuff from Walter Wanderley – and a refreshing change from his work on Verve! The record's dated 1968, but we're kind of guessing that the tracks date from earlier years – although we're not sure. Most of the material's as sophisticated as anything Walter was cutting in the US ... LP, Vinyl record album

Nossos Momentos
Philips (Brazil), 1982. Near Mint- Gatefold
A great little live set from Maria Bethania – one recorded with the lighter, looser sound she was using in the early 80s – and which stands as a nice contrast to her more dramatic concert performances of the 70s! Edgey pop work from the enigmatic singer Taiguara – a bit sweet, a bit baroque, and one of those talents who was secretly helping to push Brazilian pop into the next level!
