Furry Lewis In His Prime 1927 to 1928

LP (Item 598894) Yazoo, 1927/1928 — Condition: Near Mint-

Two years might be a short time for any artist to be in their "prime" – but the quality of these sides is so strong, they've supported the reputation of Furry Lewis for many many years! The set features wonderful low-key material recorded for 78s in the years 1927 and 1928 – all with Lewis on acoustic guitar, but working with an even greater emphasis on his voice – which has all these amazing inflections that so many other singers would copy over the years. Titles include Furry's classic two part "Kassie Jones" – plus "Jellyroll", "Why Don't You Come Home Blues", "Good Looking Girl Blues", "Mistreatin Mama", "Furry's Blues", "I Will Turn Your Money Green", and "Cannonball Blues".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Red label pressing.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Albert King teams up with Allen Toussaint for a sweet set of soul-drenched blues! King Albert
Tomato, 1977. Sealed
A tight date from 1977, and one that follows nicely in the spirit of King's later Stax sides, but with a slightly smoother groove. There's a bit of the Detroit 70s mode going on in the set – that rough-and-smooth quality that you'd find on a Don Davis production, which proves to be a ... LP, Vinyl record album
