We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Dot, Late 50s. Very Good+
Much cooler than the usual percussion album of this type – thanks to bongos from Jack Berger, vibes from Ralph Hansell, organ from Don Ferris, drums from Roy Harte, and piano and percussion from Milt Rogers himself! LP, Vinyl record album
Sounds Of Adventure
Capitol, Mid 60s. Very Good- 2LP Gatefold
A 2LP set, released in the mid 60's as a "Capitol Record Club Exclusive" – and one that compiles some of Baxter's best work for the label. The inside of the cover has some good notes on Baxter's career, and the record contains many nice moments like "Dancing Diamonds", ... LP, Vinyl record album
Orienta
RCA, 1959. Very Good+
A lost lounge gem from the RCA catalog – with a dreamy exotica feel that's right up there with the best of the bachelor pad era! Gerald Fried arranged and conducted this ersatz studio group, and his overall approach has lots of sweeping woodwinds and percussion, similar to the great Les ... LP, Vinyl record album
More Jungle Drums
RCA, 1964. Very Good+
Better than it sounds – as this one, like the initial Jungle Drums album, is low on the drums, and much more in the mode of Gould's usual light classic work. In fact, we're kind of hard pressed to hear any percussion at all – as the main groove is orchestral performances of Latin ... LP, Vinyl record album

Fandango
A&M, 1982. Near Mint-
A sweet Latin-styled set from trumpeter Herb Alpert – but one that's got a very different vibe than his faux Latin grooves of the 60s! The set here is done with key contributions from both Juan Carlos Calderon as a songwriter, and Jose Quintana as a producer – both talents who really ... LP, Vinyl record album

Movin' N Groovin'
RCA, 1961. Very Good
Yes, there's lots of snoozy 3 Suns records, but this isn't one of them. Housed in a beautiful "Stereo Action" series die-cut sleeve, this LP is groovy, swingin', and very dynamic. LP, Vinyl record album
