Something Wonderful

LP (Item 59880) Capitol, Mid 60s — Condition: Very Good+

A classic set by Nancy, set to arrangements by Billy May, and mostly featuring an assortment of standards, all done by Wilson with that sophistisoul touch that made her work so great! The real standout here is the impeccable "Guess Who I Saw Today", one of those tunes that Nancy takes from the ordinary into the sublime – and other tracks include "Teach Me Tonight", "Something Happens To Me", "He's My Guy", "The Great City", and "If Dreams Come True".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Rainbow label stereo pressing. Cover has wide aged tape on the bottom seam.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Quite possibly the greatest of Mark Murphy's early albums for Capitol – a heavily swinging set that features some great arrangements from Bill Holman, and Mark's classic version of the title tune – which he'd reprise nicely in years to come! A later Capitol gem by June – where she reprisies a number of classics from her early years with Stan Kenton – new versions of late 40s tunes, done here with Pete Rugolo arrangements that go a good way towards showing how both he and June had grown during the 50s. Dinah, Yes Indeed!

One of the first "adult" albums by a young Toni Harper – first known as a child sensation in the 40s, but stepping out nicely as a torchy vocalist in the 50s! The album's got a really great, really mellow Verve approach – laidback, late nite jazz instrumentation – ... LP, Vinyl record album
