Bebel Gilberto's certainly one to keep her public waiting in the space between each new record – but she always makes the wait worthwhile by coming up with something new! The sound here is again something different than her previous two albums – somewhat electric, but also fairly acoustic as well – even more mature than before, and not as easily given to simple tricks or flourishes – which is a very good thing in our book! One track was done in collaboration with Kassin, with backings by Orquestra Imperial – and other titles feature contributions from Sabina Sciubba, Didi Gutman, Masa Shimizu, and Guy Sigsworth. Titles include "Tranquilo", "Night & Day", "Um Segundo", "Cade Voce", "Words", "Azul", and "Os Novos Yorkinos".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Aleuda featuring Hermeto Pascoal

Oferenda
Carmo/Far Out (UK), Mid 80s. Used
A wonderful album – one that takes us back to the early 70s sound of Hermeto, Airto, and Flora Purim! Hermeto Pascoal arrranged and produced the record, and it's based around the jazzy vocals of Brazilian singer Aleuda, who reminds us a bit of Flora in her early days, but with a tone that's ... CD

Marcela Mangabeira

Simples
Albatroz/Points South, 2008. Used
Laidback and charming modern bossa pop from Marcela Mangabeira – a set with warmth to spare, and very pretty vocals from Marcela! The backdrop is light and a little bit jazzy, with electronics giving it a modern feel without undercutting the bossa melodies. Marcela's does her lovely best on ... CD
Solar/World Psychedelia, 1974. Used
A gem of a record from the same Pernambuco early 70s scene that gave us Lula Cortes, Ze Ramalho, Geraldo Azevedo, and Alceu Valenca! This obscure little set has lots of the earthier tones that showed up in work by the above artists – a style that mixes folksy touches with bits of psychedelia ... CD

Victor Assis Brasil Quarteto

Pedrinho
EMI (Brazil), 1979. Used
One of the greatest albums by Victor Assis Brasil – a brilliant sax player who was one of Brazil's greatest jazz talents in the 70s! On this set, Victor really tightens things up from some of his spacier post-Coltrane albums of earlier years – crackling with a firey approach to the ... CD

Jorge Ben

Ben E Samba Bom
Universal (Brazil), 1964. Used
Amazing stuff! Jorge Ben never made a bad record in the 60s – and this is one of his best! The album's filled with tight jaunty numbers that mix big band samba arrangements with quickly strummed guitar, and Jorge's wonderfully raw vocals – all classic stuff for Jorge, but a style that ... CD

Os Pilantrocratas

Pilantocracia
Whatmusic (UK), Late 60s. Used
A mad batch of tunes that are a perfect example of the "pilantragem" (piracy) movement in Brazil at the end of the 60s! Similar to some of the pluralistic cultural influences running through Tropicalia, pilantragem borrows music from a world of different sources – working in a ... CD

A great set of spacey jazzy grooves – and a rare album that was deleted immediately from the Acid Jazz catalog due to some copyright troubles! The album's quite different than a lot of the other ones on the Acid Jazz label – with a spacey soul sound that's a sweet blend of classic 70s ... CD

Mr Fingers

Introduction
MCA, 1992. Used
A great record from Larry Heard – one that sounded a lot more soulful than some of the other house records coming out at the time, which may well be why it got buried back in the day. The record's a great 90s updating of the deep Chicago style of the mid 80s – with keyboards that are a ... CD
