Solo mandolin work by Hamilton De Holanda – played very much in the spare mode you might guess from the title – but often with a bit more dynamic energy than you might expect! Hamilton really has a great range of sound from his instrument – drawing on the Brazilian tradition of older bandolim work, but also bringing in some warmer, folksier overtones from the US as well – all recorded with great sound that really gets at the full depth of the instrument's sound. Titles include "Luiza", "Gratitude", "Beatriz", "Samba Do Sonho", "Passarim", "O Bem Do Mar", "Feitico Da Vila", and "Amor Saudade Amor".  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

A landmark recording that is one of Jorge Ben's best albums ever! The album is a perfect realization of the way that Jorge mixes Brazilian rhythms with choppy Afro grooves – and the result is a masterpiece that yeilded some of his biggest tracks ever. Included here is the great choppy funk ... CD

Forget the MTV in the title, because even though this album was recorded for their highly successful program – it's got a wonderfully intimate feel that takes us back to the best moments of Bosco's earlier work. Joao sings and plays guitar, and titles include "Holofotes", "Memo ... CD

A great later album from Joao Donato – one that almost took the world by surprise when it was released, as it came after a long period of silence from the bossa legend! The set's got a mellow-grooving feel that's definitely rooted in bossa, with a touch of jazz – modernized slightly, ... CD

Brilliant early work from Jorge Ben – a set that shouldn't be confused with the US album of the same name, and which is one of Jorge's first few gems of the 60s! The album's got Ben stepping out with a slightly jazzier feel than on his debut – a style that's still heavily steeped in ... CD

Amazing stuff! Jorge Ben never made a bad record in the 60s – and this is one of his best! The album's filled with tight jaunty numbers that mix big band samba arrangements with quickly strummed guitar, and Jorge's wonderfully raw vocals – all classic stuff for Jorge, but a style that ... CD
