My Man Speedy

LP (Item 5978) Tico, Mid 60s — Condition: Very Good+
Killer grooves from the legendary Joe Cuba – maybe one of his greatest albums of the 60s, and one of those sets where he took his small combo sound and moved it into a great Latin Soul groove! The playing is great, with the same sort of boogaloo vibe that Joe had with the Bang Bang album – and the album's filled with killer cuts that include "My Man Speedy", "I'm Insane", "Talk About Luv", "You Better Believe It", "TCOB", and "Hey Joe Hey Joe".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Nice orange label pressing. Cover has a small mark on the front, but is nice overall.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Tito Rodriguez

Senor Tito Rodriguez
Tico, 1958. Very Good+
An excellent little set from Tito – recorded in the late 50s for Tico, with a groove that's harder than much of his 60s work for United Artists! The lineup includes some nice jazzy vibes work on a few tracks – and the album includes the great percussive track "Suena Tu Bongo (Beat ... LP, Vinyl record album

Miguelito Valdes with Machito

Reunion
Tico, 1963. Very Good+
Miguelito Valdes is reunited with his old boss, Machito, in an LP of tightly orchestrated "Afro-boleros", as the liner notes call them. All of the material is vocal, in the style that Machito was doing with his larger group of the late 50s. Titles include "Africanerias", " ... LP, Vinyl record album

Joe Loco

Goin' Loco
Tico, Early 60s. Very Good+
Joe Loco was one of the most amazing early Latin piano talents, and in an album like this, you can really hear him go to work in a savage way! On this set, Joe moves all over the keys in a number of different ways – from heavy left-handed stride playing, to light and lovely jazz soloing, to ... LP, Vinyl record album

RCA, 1955. Very Good
A great little record – a heck of a lot nicer than Tito's work in the 50s, with a much more hard driving mambo sound, touched by a bit of jazz. The style here's not dissimilar to Tito Puente's work at the time – and titles include "Ay No No No", "A Little Bit Of ... LP, Vinyl record album
